Titles read: "NOW Pathe Pictorial has pleasure in presenting - HILDEGARDE - the famous International Cabaret and Radio Star".
Probably filmed at Pathe Studio, London.
Cabaret singer Hildegarde sits at the grand piano and introduces her song as being about an English boy falling in love with a French girl, but not knowing enough of the French language to express his love. She sings and plays 'Darling, Je Vous Aime Beaucoup' - quite charming!
Fashion note: Hildegarde wears a halterneck dress with a shiny black bodice (looks like leather or pvc!) with the remainder of the gown in a checked fabric - unusual!

It is sad that there are such wonderful actors and singers who, at one time, were superstars of their eras but are today forgotten. Thanks for showing us Hildegarde

My father and I were at the Serb Hall in Milwaukee when I was about 10-12 (not sure) when my Dad popped out of his chair and he yelled out "Hildegarde, my cousin". She came over and embraced him and said hi to me. I remember this because she was beautiful and seemed to have an aura around her. it was around 1956-7 and then afterward started singing. How could you ever forget that voice? Afterward, my dad said she was from Wisconsin but I couldn't remember what town. They all had German ancestry,

Lovely! Recently found this channel and now I have to thank you for uploading all these wonderful pearls from yesteryear! It isn't the kind of music I normally listen to, but the quality and the charm of those artists totally melted my heart!

Helps to have a lovely Grotrian-Steinweg piano under one's fingers, no doubt pleasing the absurdly talented Hildegarde.

This was from the 1930's at the beginning of her career. There is a YT of her performing in her 70's but nothing of her spectacular performances at the peak of her long career . Eleanor Roosevelt described her as "The First Lady of the Supper Clubs."

Recorded a lot on US Decca 1930s-1948 on 78 some issued in UK on Brunswick , switched early to 45s with a smattering of releases in the 1950s and 60s, but was mostly a "live" performer at the smaller revue clubs in the US rather than big theatres.

She's very good. Her piano playing is as graceful and charming as her singing. Just one thing..She sounds like she is playing and singing in Db but she looks like she is playing in C. This would indicate that her actual voice is lower in sound quality than it is in the video. Very pretty nontheless. Thanx for posting!

Also a great pianist and real charmer. Funny although Amercian when she sings she sounds English.... perfect BBC accent! I guess this is what was popular. Today it seems the opposite applies.

Here you go :) Je suis ici pas très long Mais, s'il vous plaît, écoute my song Vous avez un grand appeal To speak my heart it's difficile Permettez-moi to expliquer In my own peculiar way Exactly what mon cœur would say : Darling, je vous aime beaucoup Je ne sais pas what to do Vous avez completely stolen my heart Matin, midi et le soir Toujours wondering how you are That's the way I've felt right from the start Ah, chérie my love for you is très, très fort Wish my French were good enough I'd tell you so much more Mais j'espère that you compris All the little things you mean to me My Darling, je vous aime beaucoup I love you Darling, vous êtes très jolie Mais qu'est-ce que c'est vous do to me ? Absolutely je suis in a trance Tout le temps j'espère que vous Dream of me a little too Ah! Chérie je pense this is romance Quand nous sommes alone and you are in my arms Je remercie le bon Dieu for all your lovely charms Tell me, do you love me too ? Je suis happy if you do My darling, je vous aime beaucoup I love you so I do, I do love you
