I had no plans to upload a video today but I figured why not? I hope you all enjoy this video as it's definitely going to be the last welding video I upload in 2017.

Not to speak disparagingly of the trade but welders probably have the easiest job on the pipeline-especially new pipeline. Hoarded in if there is weather-always ample helpers and less rushed than other contractors. Their work is very important (and verified by NDE) but often they get a bad rep because many are super-divas and/or extremely arrogant

Easiest job lol? So when there's hundreds of thousands of dollars resting completely on your shoulders to make a final tie in weld or a tie in that involves cranes which cost thousands a day. Sounds like an easy stress free position to me. Then if you can't make the weld you have a slim chance we re hire down the road with that spread.

Marcel Lirette -you do a repair after a failed xray. Everyone makes mistakes Don't play the victim card. Amazing welders have failed NDE. And yes, they still get work after.

@@policronia yeah but it is stressful at times, deadlines, dangerous tie ins, live lines. The best thing is just to fab at a shop or yard but mainline is more stressful because as a welder your expected to preform at the same level as those dudes who have been doing it for years some decades. Your point is kinda dumb tbh cause something that is “easy” for you isn’t necessarily easy for others.

Welders are always burned, neck, ear arm of course they will loose there job if they make a mistake... period over you ain’t got to go home but you can’t stay here. That pressure terrifies a lot of welder today so if they’re too hung over or just don’t feel it that day they’ll make excuses/bitch to run the clock out until tomorrow. Simply they’re not good enough to weld under pressure day in and day out or they just lack the confidence in their ability. I’m in the older crowd today and I just grit it out old school and get it done. Hopefully the younguns will see it as an example. I’ll out work them every day all day and they know it. What Pisses me off about a 20 something year old welder is their complaining griping and bitching like they fit and welded every joint on the Alaskan pipeline and really they may be on the second job as a welder they are parroting what they’ve heard about and they haven’t earned the right to bitch that much.

Its a pleasure to see the way you guys work out there, here we have a lot of manual pipe fitting, calculating, preparing, marking those big elbows, intersections, bifurcation and etc, which ones been made out of the pipe itself, do you get what I meant to say?Ive been working in the fabrication and field since when I was 18 and I would rather been working as you guys do, having no boundaries with those big monopolizing industries, I really hope to have a chance to work as you guys do someday, maybe its not that far to become my reality, keep up the good work bro!

Question? Contractor cut out? Doesn’t look like the weld was fully completed prior to the cut out so I doubt a failed X-ray was an issue... was this due to a pipe alignment issue or? Great videos as always 👍

You guys should use ceramic tape for a back instead of a back up strip I invented that idea back in the 1970'sin san Diego ca you weld uphill with it

I really appreciate you’re videos. I’m in welding school and excited to get into the field and make some money. Once I get a welding degree will it be easy to get a good job or will I have to work as a helper for a while until I can get some welding experience in the field?

Oren Crafts they only partially cut it with the beveling machine then had to put a clamp on and finish with hand torch so it wouldn't go doinggg!!!!! And break the machine or kill someone.

Hi my name is Ryan and I’ve seen your pipeline videos from time to time was wondering if I could get some insight on how you got into pipeline work and cause I’m interested in doing pipeline rig wilding like you guys do I have talked to my local boiler makers union about pipeline welding and they they that around the states and with I am getting a Chevy s10 her in June and want to put a flat bed on what kind of metal thick should I do with that and I plan on putting some diamond tread plating on it and lifting it a few inches and putting on a welder bumper with a tow hitch on it !

Hi Ryan, Some insight to point you in the right direction if your actually serious about it. Let start with these two gentleman welding machines they are Classic 300D welding machines or SAE 300 simply put because they are the best machine for the job (Pipeline Welding). With that goes a weight figure of about 1300 lbs. which kinda puts a Chevy S 10 for and idea of a truck kinda out the window. These guys are both using One ton trucks for their rigs and to be honest i don't see welding rigs that aren't one ton. Secondly and probably more so to what you wanna actually know. This here is largely a name hire industry. at least what your seeing in this Video. You need to know some body to get your foot in the door and when your in, you work your ass off to make a name for yourself. Just trying to give you good creditable info its not impossible to break into tho and this is Canadian footage. I know the people in this video so it could be entirely different if your located in the states.

I got my start at a Navy Shipyard. Learned how to do critical welds in SMAW and GTAW limited access and lots of mirror welding. Spent a lot of time TIG Welding in elevator shafts welding arrays of hydraulic lines with a 24 Head TIG most of which were mirror hence learning welding either hand. We were made to grind every start on SMAW and it came in handy at a shutdown at a Steam Plant welding between floors on large turbine TIG root and SMAW (7018) fill. About 14" on each side was mirror welding so they had me doing all of the mirror stuff. Now in Aerospace welding Refractory and Titanium in a Glove Box along with a 5 Axis Electron Beam Welder. A few years at a shipyard were priceless experience. and allowed me to travel expanding my experience. I have a sweet Miller Dynasty and all kinds of TIG Torches for trick welding like Turbo and Race Bike stuff. Just saying, a good Apprentice Position at a shipyard can set you for the rest of your life.
