I have the Nallo 4 GT, the single entrance version of this tent. Your review may have cost me $1000, because now I want a double entry tent! Many thanks for all your great reviews.

Thanks, yes I am a big fan of the Kaitum and the Keron for that reason. Plus to make the slant style work perfectly you really need to be pretty spot on on the setup I have found. Once tight it is good. Lots of the slant style out there though.

Kaitum has the widest inner tent in all person-kategories. That not a detail to forget either.

+Scruff UK Thanks for watching Thom. I really enjoyed using it and the amount of area to use like a workspace or gear storage was really nice. Especially up where I am usually where it rains or snows a ton I really like the ability to deal with gear and not bring it into the sleep area.

+the mi woodsman I agree. I ignored trying this one out, but then I really looked at it and I think I would personally get this one. I also liked how the walls, especially at the feet and head were vertical. My biggest issue with tents is if my feet or head touch and sometimes get condensation wetness.

+Central Oregon Desert Explorers They are on the high end for sure. I think it is one of those items though that would stand up to the price/quality. I am lucky though, as my sons work for Hilleberg, so I get to play with all the tents. Nothing wrong with roughing it either.

Hi Bruce this has been my fantasy tent for a while but i can't justify it . Its too heavy for solo backpacking and it would be problematic finding a pitch due to its length. Not saying i won't get it eventually though lol. I think for you and the kids its a great choice and a true 4 season fortress. Atb.
@naturecallsoutdoors
@naturecallsoutdoors 8 жыл бұрын
+Scots Wildcamper Oh for sure, not a one person tent. I could see if you split the weight it would be a useable 3 person, and for hunting base camp it would be awesome. Out in the desert or wide tundra too as it is very long for sure. I am making a pulk for the snow and it would work for that too.

+TheAnnoyingThingOutdoors thanks for watching, I really appreciate it. I am thinking of doing a stake video soon, what do you think? I have seen some videos lately where the wrong peg type is being used and the blame is going the wrong way. Hoping to get out tomorrow night for some storm survival tarp overnight testing. Take care Bruce

I have been checking craigslist daily for camp gear for two years now. This summer someone in nearby Sun Prairie Wi listed a one man military tent for $65(used 1 time) and a 4 man 4 Season tent for $150, also only used 1 time. I watched that ad for a week trying to decide if I should go look at the 4 season tent, and a couple days later the ad was updated with tent names and new prices... The one man was now listed as a Eureka TCOP and the price was raised to $235, and the 4 man was listed as a Hilleberg Keron 4GT and the price was updated to $750! 3 Months later and that Hilleberg is still listed at $750.... I really kick myself every time I see that ad knowing that I could have bought that tent for $150 or possibly less.

+WisconsinEric Keep an eye out. I picked up a Marmot 4 season, 2 person, barely used for $100 last year. It is a great tent as well, and I outfitted it with Hilleberg cordage and pegs and would use it in winter no problem. Big winds I would be a little concerned, but would be confident. I also see the North Face 4 seasons for decent used price too. The neat thing about the Hilleberg stuff is the strength of the material and the lifetime guarantee. I would have no issues getting a used one. Good luck and let me know what you find.

Nature Calls Just this last Sunday I missed an entire kit including a vintage 4 season/mountaineering Eureka Expedition tent and two vintage Thermarest pads for only $40! A vintage Peak 1 550b stove(I already have two of 'em) and case was included along with other unknown goodies... I missed that sale by minutes :( The guy that bought it relisted the tent at $139 and each Thermarest at $35. His photos show everything is in like new condition. I'm still looking for my first Tioga tho.

I think we have the same problem. I love equipment, mostly the stuff that came when tents started being made from nylon. If you ever do videos on what you find I will be watching for sure.

+Nature Calls HaHa, it is a bit of a problem lol. Just last week I did shoot a quick video of my Old Town Penobscot 16RX that I traded for on craigslist back in May. The video kind of sucked tho as I received a text that my new 6 point Hudson Bay had just showed up in the mail... I had to hurry home to see it. Not sure if I will upload that canoe vid or not. I also scored a vintage Eureka Backcountry 2 tent from the mid '90's in perfect shape(it had not even been seam sealed!) for $15 off craigslist, and I actually really like that tent. I spent 5 nights in it this summer and it held up to a rainstorm that is tied for the nastiest storm I have ever camped in, and I stayed 100% dry( I used two tubes of SeamGrip on it). It is the same size as my USMC two man tent, but it weighs 4.5lbs less and packs much smaller due to its short 13" poles(packed size)
@naturecallsoutdoors

Now that is even more funny. I just picked up an old canoe that I will be doing a video on next spring for the restore. Seems like we have a parallel universe going on.

Thanks for the details. Superior company and tents even in such a competitive marketplace. Off topic... What jacket brand/specs? The loft seems above average ... satisfied with that jacket?
@naturecallsoutdoors
@naturecallsoutdoors 7 жыл бұрын
Thanks Finn. That jacket is from Costco. About $30 is a nice lightweight option. I think it is around 600 fill power though. And it completely loses it when I sweat. I use it mainly in dry weather and only in camp. I did get a Marmot that has the downtek that works better, but still not a good option when hiking. Just got the Arcteryx Atom LT that I am hoping will be my answer, that and combine it with a new rain shell. Fingers crossed.

Superb review of a superb tent Bruce, I'm looking at the Allak or Nallo 2 Gt, what does this weigh in Kgs?
@naturecallsoutdoors
@naturecallsoutdoors 8 жыл бұрын
+savedpurplecat This one is 4.1kg. I think the Nallo or the Anjan GT would be the most versatile for you. I like the Allak, but for rainy days and the possibility of needed to cook inside the GT models would be better. I think it rains a little there. plus it looks like you can peg most places. Is this for mountain or car camping?

I guess it would come down to how strong you want it. You could go lighter and get a second set of poles like I think we have discussed on one of your other tents. Or go for the Black Label for the real nasty stuff and use your other tent for the less nasty. If it has the option I would go for the mesh inner option also. At the very least it is fun to think about the possibilities. What is the main intention? Are you keeping your other tents?
@savedpurplecat

No selling the force 10 argon 2 great tent stupidly light porch too small for all my gear, bought a MLD DuoMid cuban fiber and never used it! need a hard core winter tent Bruce, must stand winds of 60 mph+
@naturecallsoutdoors
@naturecallsoutdoors 8 жыл бұрын
For your style, hiking uphill, the Red Label should be great and light enough to not be too much of a burden. I like the Nallo and Anjan, but the Kaitum is neat as at the foot end the tent is still high, so off your sleeping bag. The Nallo and Anjan slant down. And the Kaitum has a vestibule at both ends and doors at both ends. I have found the second vestibule handy like at night when I just need to stow things quickly. Plus the 2 doors would be awesome in the summer when you need cross ventilation. So I vote for a Kaitum 2 or 3 GT. I think Andy Wardle has the Anjan, and For the Views has the Staika and go out in the nasty winds that may have some insight too.
