I learned this song at 2 or 3 years old from a man in Coolea, Co. Cork. It really brought back memories, as I probably haven't heard it in over 50 years. Thank you.

Barefoot in Mullyneeny brought me here. A memoir written by Bryan Gallagher. Lovely book. I was curious about this farewell song sung by a family on a grey dawn as one of them left for America. The whole family gathered to sing as he left in the pony trap that day. Made me wonder if he ever saw their faces, or they his, again. Very good book.

Should have given the poor lad a twin wheel barrow for the bog

geeeze, so much for flotation tyres ,,, is that a bicycle wheel on the bog barrow? Donegal did'nt have the "appliance of scence" like 'the Wessst' using low ground pressure- wide wooden wheels!!

this is sung to the same tune as Wind that shakes the corn, it sounds like.

That's Errigal in the background. Buncrana is on Lough Swilly.
