Walmart was emporium capwells
@jsmurd4 ай бұрын
Walmart was at the original Macy’s. Emporium - Capwells was at the far end and the opposite end was JCPenney if that makes any sense.
@IanJones9426 ай бұрын
2:06 Nope. This was Macy's. 4:00 Back in the day, this was B.Dalton Books. 4:17 I think they knocked out a wall in the store on the right - pretty sure this was KayBee Toys. 4:56 you're facing Macys (formerly Emporium Capwell.) 9:23 the Shoe Palace space used to be a clothing store called Merry Go Round. 11:51 Old T-Mobile store, and before that Electronics Boutique. 13:12 - next to the bandit graffiti is where Musicland/Sam Goody was. 13:26 You're facing JC Penney now. Just filling in a few gaps. And I might need a life. lol.

Hilltop Mall was built on the site of a Standard Oil (Chevron) tank farm. I grew up in Richmond, lived there until early ‘80’s. Downtown Richmond was the place to shop as was El Cerrito Plaza. When Hilltop Mall came in it sucked the life out of the old downtown Richmond. My wife and infant son shopped at the Macy’s when it first opened. I remember that spiral walkway very well. Wasn’t there an indoor ice rink at the mall? There was a restaurant next door and you could watch the skaters through these glass windows.

I remember Hilltop Mall from when we would visit our dad who lived in Richmond, at that time (in the 80’s) it had lots of foot traffic and I remember going up those circular walk paths

I’d recognize a Taubmann designed mall anywhere, they all had similar architecture like this. Other examples are the Northridge Mall (closed), Southridge Mall (open), Marley Station Mall (open), and the Lakeforest Mall (closed).

Also Eastridge Mall in San Jose (open)

Thanks for the interesting (if sad, spooky!) tour. Hilltop was one of the THE places to hang out back in the early 1980s, when I was in high school.

WCC is falling apart in general. I need only point out how Pathway to Choices in Pinole is now down to half-days and unreliable availability, and additionally has their case of The Heart, initials MD, no longer working there after already having been overworked before the Kincade Fire into lifelessness uncharacteristic of a mid-40s Genki Girl who would play Rules Lawyer about a mini-house art project to claim she's not cheating. It has me asking: have we really become tired of ourselves? I shouldn't even be the one asking that when I'm the one who did the trope workshop entry for Savvy Guy Energetic Girl for a reason, yet here we are. All because the community doesn't want to genuinely care. Hilltop Mall is a very good showcase of this. I remember the floor had a pattern that could be used for a stepping game. Now...yeah, what happened?
