The broken Mahindra Scorpio you see at 5:24 is ours. My friends and I rented it from Delhi. We were crossing that unfateful 'Pagal Nala' around 8 in the night(Not recommended) when the clutch plate broke in an effort to get it over that bigass black rock you see in the middle. It was a scary night. As insane as it sounds, we had taken a detour of around 400 Kms from Tabo/Nako because of the land slides and a fine lady in Rampur had told us 'You have to see Kaza'. We couldn't. We are planning again this August hoping to not make the same mistakes again.

Thanks a lot for watching Aaditya:) And I thought you guys had just parked it there and were taking pictures or something. I remember the broken Skoda Rapid with a broken radiator. hahah! ya man sometimes huge boulders also roll down. So always be careful. You can't be careless in these places. specially during monsoons. The season starts pretty early this year. Do visit. Do share the video with your friends and help us get more viewers. :)
@aadityamandloi97956 жыл бұрын
We left it there only, even the people with no driving sense would know enough to not park under a waterfall :P. No break-down assistance from Revv. So we decided to spend the night at Dorji cafe which comes right after this crossing, the hosts( Dorji bhaai and their family) they're very polite. They couldn't let us(6 male) sleep in their cafe cum home as there were ladies but they were kind enough to let us sleep in the storage hut they had built right in front of their cafe. The next morning we walked back same distance and double until we found a willing Tempo Traveller to drop us back to the main road. Anybody who visits Spiti, please say Hi! to Dorji bhaai from us. We owe him.

Took this road last October with 5 friends. Everything was covered with snow. We drove from kaza to manali, took us over 10 hours to cover 200 kms. Our scorpio got stuck in slush in the evening when we were around 30 kms from Rohtang. All 6 of us were really scared as we hadn't seen anybody throughout who could help us. But somehow we managed. We finally had sigh of relief when we reached Rohtang. Watchingthis video really gave me goosebumps.

Excellent work...Enjoyed every part of it, especially the Gramphu-Kunzum stretch. Your videos have always been a source of great motivation for the travel freaks. Felt nostalgic while watching as this video reminded me of our drive from Kaza to Manali which we did in a Maruti Dzire (Petrol) in October 2015. We found the Kunzum-Gramphu stretch most treacherous and desolate. Knew that this route would be doable in a sedan but only after monsoons. Luckily we completed our drive safely without any breakdown despite a couple of minor under-body hits due to low ground clearance. Cheers to your great effort...Keep posting...Regards.

We did it with i20 by the way. The thing is , we generally ask local people about the road condition for whom it’s a common thing to pass through such roads. You should better ask the people coming from the destination that you’re on your way to. I still remember , one of the guys in kaza told us - “you should have the technique to make it through such roads” and that’s what we did & came back home safely :) .Experience these reads guys, your life will change.

Ankush Sohal bro, i also want to do leh with i20 petrol. Is it possible and what are the major points i should remember
@ankushsohal8586 жыл бұрын
Vijay, though I haven’t been to leh. But, I had conversation with a lot of people who have been to let and they recommended not to travel in cars with low ground clearance. I think you have my answer. Why don’t you rent a car from zoom car , you can rent a suv from them. Major points I would say - you should be totally aware of the places you’re going to visit e.g.: petrol pumps, hotels, near by clinics or something in case of any medical emergencies. Be gentle on the curves , don’t drive fast . For road conditions ask local as well people coming from the other side , but to get updates of if you can go further or something you should prefer asking the people coming from the other side. Network issues may arise at some location so kindly take enough information about where you may loose network and do carry offline maps.

@RoamingHawks7 жыл бұрын
Good stuff, as always! When was this recorded btw? We faced something similar in July. Only difference being we did this from Kaza to Manali. And by the time we reached the streams on the Batal - Gramphoo stretch, they had swelled up considerably. Though we didn't get stuck anywhere, with the fading light, it was quite an experience. I wonder, why can't we tame this monster of a road even in 2017. I have heard about the bad conditions for as long as I can remember now. I wish, BRO takes up the upkeep of this section from PWD. Maybe then we will see some improvements.
@Himalayanroads7 жыл бұрын
+Roaming Hawks thanks a lot :) glad to hear from you again. This was recorded on 17th August. They don’t want to. You have seen it. Its not difficult at all. Also it’s already under BRO And that’s why the difficult sections had no one to help. Before they always had people on every difficult sections of the road. But BRO is widening it now. Two laning is already approved. Hope it happens soon. Also, The other side has become really smooth. Shimla to Kaza via Kinnaur took us exactly 10 hours.
@RoamingHawks7 жыл бұрын
I vaguely remember seeing a board saying "BRO limit ends" or something similar, a little beyond Batal (towards Manali), hence my assumption that it is taken care of by PWD between Gramphoo - Batal. Anyway, once the road is fixed, it will make the life a lot easier for the locals. As for adventure/thrill seekers, maybe something else will pop up, lol! :) Cheers!

@@Himalayanroads In earlier comments you replied it was recorded in middle of june. Now you're saying its 17th August. What ever man Tell me what is the time the road condition get better. @Himalayanroads5 жыл бұрын
@@bn2dtraveller3 There must be some confusion. Its really hard to predict the road conditions of Manali Spiti road as it changes every week. Somedays you can take a honda city through it and someday even a 4WD car will get stuck. You can easily take the Nano from Kinnaur side to avoid any risks. But you'll have to take your chances if you go from Manali Side.

Do we have to take permission from the police to drive here?? Because atleast once in my life...I want to drive on this road..
@Himalayanroads7 жыл бұрын
+Biswajit Majumder nope why would you need permission from the police. All you need is a permit from the administration to cross Rohtang Pass. Available online on their website.

People come back South and brag that it took them 14 hours to go 120 kms. Death of drivers is not a joke while we sit in the back.
