Heiter was around 16 or so when he left on the 10 year journey as he was close in age to Himmel. Then 50 years passed when Himmel died, and another 20 when Frieren joined Heiter and Fern. You could add a year or two to that to figure out how old he is....

This episode had several excellent examples of symbolism with Himmel as Sky.(Himmel means Sky/Heaven in German) When Heiter fell, we saw the massive rain storm. Himmel was crying. When Heiter tells Fern about his lost friend in the flashback, the backdrop is a clear blue sky. When Frieren finds the Blue Moon Weed, she is framed against a beautiful sky, showing Himmel is with her and happy. The names in Frieren are all German words. Knowing what they mean isn't necessary, but there is a lot of added value with symbolism and such.

​@@AJsReelReviews the show is so crammed full of details like this it's unlikely that they are all going to be typed out in the comments let alone be noticed by a first time watcher. I've watched the show several times, read the manga several times, watched over 30 different reactors to the show, and have watched a few dozen videos breaking down aspects of the show, and last week a different new reactor pointed out a detail that I don't think I had observed or heard talked about before. If you particularly like the bit about the names, I highly recommend checking out the German KZbinr Storieswithstyle. He has a lovely 3hr long video(in English) where he goes into all of the names and major uses of symbolism related to these names in the first 16 episodes. Spoilers, of course, so don't watch until after you get past episode 16. Time permitting it is likely I will post other comments like this one tho. Concerning Himmel as the MC... He does regularly outperform most other characters in popularity polls at least. Then again so does the Mimic, so ymmv I'm glad you are enjoying Frieren 😊

The first 4 episodes were shown as a group, as they set down the direction of the series. This is a series that little things (shown or spoken) sometimes seem meaningless until maybe several episodes later.

@@AJsReelReviews there are other episodes that are best watched together (again if you want to do separate videos, go ahead). 5&6 are best together. 7 thru 10 are best together, with 11 being an epilog. 18-21 should be in a group, then 23-26, then 27 & 28.
