लियांग शिनजिंग एक ईसाई है। वह अपने पति और बेटी के साथ एक सुखी ज़िंदगी जी रही है। लेकिन कम्युनिस्ट पार्टी द्वारा विश्वासियों पर किए जा रहे बेतहाशा ज़ुल्म और गिरफ्तारियों के कारण, उसका पति उसकी आस्था के रास्ते में बाधा बनने लगता है, उसे डर है कि अगर उसकी पत्नी को जेल हो गयी तो उसका असर उसकी तरक्की पर पड़ेगा। पति की मार-पीट और तलाक की धमकी के बावजूद, लियांग शिनजिंग परमेश्वर का अनुसरण करने के अपने संकल्प पर अडिग रहती है, उनके तलाक के कुछ समय बाद ही, कम्युनिस्ट पार्टी विशाल पैमाने पर ईसाइयों की गिरफ्तारी का अभियान चलाती है, इस कारण लियांग शिनजिंग को वह जगह छोड़नी पड़ती है। पुलिस और उनके "रेड आर्मबैंड" गुप्तचर लगातार उसकी बेटी से पूछताछ करते रहते हैं, वे लियांग शिनजिंग के ठिकानों के बारे में जानना चाहते हैं। लगातार आतंक और चिंता के साए में जीते-जीते, उसकी बेटी को कैंसर हो जाता है। जब लियांग शिनजिंग को इसका पता चलता है, तो वह बुरी तरह से टूट जाती है। वह इस मुश्किल घड़ी और परीक्षा से गुजरने के लिए कैसे परमेश्वर से प्रार्थना और उस पर भरोसा करती है? वह इससे क्या सबक लेती है? यह जानने के लिए देखिए विकास।
