Whenever Binya went out, whether it was to graze the cows, or fetch water from the spring, or carry milk to the little tea shop on the Tehri Road, she took the umbrella with her. That patch of sky-blue silk could always be seen on the hillside. One time, when Binya was sleeping, a gust of wind came and it flew away the blue umbrella with it. When Binya woke up, she saw the umbrella drifting with the wind. Right at that moment, Binya started to follow her umbrella. After that, the umbrella got stuck at the bottom of the cherry tree. Without caring for her own life, Binya jumped from the cliff to the tree and then climbed down the tree to get her umbrella. This umbrella was too precious for Binya and she did not want to lose it. After the cherry tree incident, the umbrella received some holes in it. Binya still did not throw away the umbrella. She asked her mother to patch it up with other pieces of clothes and after repair, she again started to use it as she always had been. In another instance, when Raja Ram (the boy who used to work at Ram Bharosa’s shop), stole her umbrella, she even ran after him to get her beautiful blue umbrella back, even if she had to fight him. This shows that she had immense love for her umbrella.
