Currently, PMA Class 1987 is at the helm of both the Philippine National Police and the Armed Forces of the Philippines. The Class’ dedication in the name of public service and patriotism will forever be etched in history. It can be recalled that on March 18, 1987, while preparing for their scheduled graduation, the grounds of PMA-which according to then President Corazon C. Aquino resembles the country’s shield of democracy-was bombed by those who stood against the republic. That fateful day was both ironic and tragic: it was inside a military Fort that the greatest threat to civilian life and the greatest casualties were inflicted. This was one of the greatest lesson of EDSA Revolution.
For the 149 strong members of Class 1987 however, this barbaric act not once held them back. Majority of them joined the Philippine Army, a handful the Philippine Constabulary and a few, the Philippine Navy. The Class holds the distinction of having three (3) Medal of Valor Awardees (the most in any Service Academy Class) among them. They have been steadfast, to this date, in waging war against all forms of threat to our freedom, sovereignty and integrity as a nation.
Truly, the legacy of PMA Hinirang Class of 1987 bespeaks so much of their gallantry, bravery, integrity and commitment to serve-worthy of emulation by all other classes of service academies that followed after them.
