One more great story teller. I may or may not of had the ringtone of " I like beer".😂
Your quesstion about the horns. although some artists did have horns in their bands, it was common in the sixties and early seventyies for Nashville producers to add horn sections and strings to a recording AFTER the artist had finished their recording. It was called the Nashville Sound. The Outlaw movement in country music was all about people like Waylon Jennings, and Willie Nelson et al wanting their recordings left un altered by producers. it was a hard fought battle for artists in Nashville to have complete control ober how their own music sounded.
@DjPjrocReacts9113 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the response @Minton Miller. So the horns we’re a post production move in some cases by Nashville producers? What distinguished the Nashville sound back then from other regions? We’re the horns a big part of that?
@mintonmiller3 жыл бұрын
@@DjPjrocReacts911 The Nashville sound was kind of a formula used be record producers back in the day. It was a very controlled system Particular to nashville. Back then, the record companies owned the studios the artist had to record in. The record companies usually also dictated what songs an artist could record and who the studio musicians to use. It was a low budget assembly line style of recording because record company execs thought they knew better what the public would pay for. In the sixties it became a very smooth metropolitan sound like Patsy Cline or very traditional. In the seventies it was more of a pop sound or very traditional. A lot of people do not know that the Waylon Jennings, This Time, albut is the album that broke the mold and forced RCA to sell their studios and give the artist the freedom to do their own music. Waylon already had the won the freedom to record how he wanted but it had to be in RCA studios. Every few minutes a recording engeneer would call the head office to complaine that Waylon was using too much bass and what not. So Waylon got fed up and picked up his toys and went over to Tom Paul Galssier studios and finished the album. When he took the tape back to RCA they loved it but said he had to rerecord in their studios. Waylon said, "this is all you get". after a number of months RCA relented and released it as is. Two things happened. This Time was Waylon's first number one hit and other artists began to demand the freedom that Waylon had won. Soon after, RCA sold their studios. The country artists in LA and Bakersfield had a lot more freedom but since the industry revolved around Nashville, that is where most country artists worked out of.

Tom T Hall discovered one of my favorite country singers back in the early 70's and that was Johnny Rodriquez. He hired him to play guitar for his band and helped him get his solo career started. My favorite song by Johnny is Makes Me Wonder If I Ever Said Goodbye. His voice is very unique. Hope you react to him.

Begging patience now, lol. My childhood is sewn together by the memories of how Tom T Hall's music was always there, making like ok, even when it was really not great. "I Love" "The Year Clayton Delaney Died" "Sneaky Snake" "Old Dogs, Children And Watermelon Wine" "Ballad Of Fourty Dollars" "A Week In A Country Jail" "Who's Gonna Feed Them Hogs" "Homecoming" --- this one is a must I could go on. Not seeing Tom T Hall live is one of my big regrets. "Homecoming". It's a song that relates to how most of us are, imo. I will fight the urge to write a book on it alone. Nobody seems to cover Tom T Hall and that's just a shame. Him and Cal Smith are two that are too often overlooked, imo. Love your channel.

Tom T Hall's mother wrote "Heartbreak Hotel" that Elvis had such a great hit :) I have a great 1962 (probably the greatest) album (which was the 1st album that I bought) Ray Charles 'Modern Sounds of Country & Western Music'. Ray grew up on Country Music as a child in Florida and he sings the classics better than I ever heard, this is a double album. He was a huge fan of Hank Williams Senior and sings a lot of his hits. I was sitting in my old van while camping at the side of the Broad run river back in the early seventies. My wife had left me taking our two baby daughters and i had moved up to Manassas Virginia trying to find work. I had finally found a job and was living out of my van. One night while i sat in the van at the river a car pulled up behind me and i reached over and grabbed my tire iron in case it was someone looking for trouble or rob me. I was in a bad way and feeling real low at the time. But a guy just walked up and asked me if i wanted to ride up to the little Manassas airport and drink some beer while he and his friend waited for Tom T Hall to arrive. They were a part of his band and he was flying in to meet them there. I did and we drank beer and i listened to them play some songs as we waited. The plane was late, so about midnight i told them i had to go get some sleep as i had a new job to start in the morning, and i left. I wish now i had waited and met Tom T but at the time making sure i got to work was more important i guess. I kick myself a lot over my decision but that's water under the bridge now. I almost got to drink a beer with the great man. Dammit!
