@Kreedogger6 жыл бұрын
Haha. Copy that man! Definitely not like my friend. Lol. I guess I, among many, always considered 4:05 a solo because he is the featured instrument in that section and when a bass player plays like that that's shredding the thing to bits. I know its repetitive in ways so i understand the 'riff' thing. That's some good bass playing.

Yeah, Metallica really changed when Cliff passed away. I mean, the guys still can't talk about it without almost crying! Don't get me wrong, Rob Trujillo is a really good fit for the band, but he doesn't seem to be either trusted or wanting to do very much of the songwriting, and Hammet has always seemed like he didn't do much more writing than the solos on the songs.

You ever get that feeling when listening to Metallica tracks like this you’re not really listening to a metal band but the world’s heaviest orchestra. The music is so well written and arranged. It’s more than just heavy head bangingness it’s truly amazing. You can almost picture a conductor just bringing in each section, building it to its crescendo then back down again for the mid section. Accept they’re so good they don’t need no dude with a baton telling them when and how to play. Truly stunning musicianship

In Greek mythology, Orion was this hunter who one of the goddesses was in love with, and he got killed one day, so she put him in the sky as the constellation Orion. Maybe it's just the mythology nerd in me, but I always thought it was about that, some of the riffs in the first part make me picture someone running across the plains, and then when it gets all spacey in the middle is maybe when he's put into the stars, and then it goes back into the original riffs because he's hunting forever now. Check out Tyr - The Lay of Thrym.
@nikosspyris6 жыл бұрын
I read somewhere was that he fell in love with Artemis, Godess of the Hunt and his hunting partner, while she also secretly fell in love with him. One day he accidentally finds her bathing in the forest, and gets caught. Artemis didn't hate him for it, but she couldn't let go of pride. So she turned him into a stag, so that he wouldn't be able to tell anyone if this. But as she couldn't bear watching him being trapped in the body of his once prey, she summoned her hunting dogs, who hunted him through the forest, any gave him a mercy killing. And he was then, given a place in the stars. The song perfectly follows these events from me start to a bit before the 4th min mark, is their adventures and the life of a hunter. From there to about 5:40, it's him in awe of witnessing her naked in the forest. From there to 6:50 is her noticing him, and the rest is the transformation, the pursuit and the fade out, his eventual positioning on the sky.
@corpazilum53526 жыл бұрын
The first part's right, but it was Actaeon who was turned into a stag after seeing her bathing, not Orion. Orion got stung by a scorpion, I believe, though I think some variants have it that Apollo tricked Artemis into shooting him.

Matthew Bermingham - Yes, much as I liked the S&M album, I don't feel it was done as well as it could have been. At times it just felt as if the orchestra were just jamming along while Metallica played a live set as usual. There was a Scorpions album called "Moment of Glory" that did it much better. The versions of "Send me an Angel" and "Wind of Change" therein were life changing for me. If they gave the same, fully reworked, fully orchestrated treatment to the Metallica instrumentals it would be truly amazing, and change a lot of people's minds about metal songwriters.

To me, Orion always paints an image in my head, which I think Metallica are really good at with their instrumentals, without words, creating an image of the song in your mind. I always feel like Orion takes me on a journey through space (which goes well with the name), just floating through space, seeing everything it has to offer, beautiful sights and the more terrifying ones, it's not always a great time, sometimes it gets more intense and that's why I love this song, that's what goes on in my head when I listen to it and all that without a single lyric. Also Cliffs bass and his bass solos in this song are amazing. Another one of their instrumentals that I feel does this really well is The Call of Ktulu, that one also paints an image in my head, much more nightmarish and Cliffs distorted undertones sound like some beast calling out during the song. If you're interested in Metallica instrumentals, that's a good next choice. Also as for my last meal, dunno, some chicken I guess, chicken is great.

It's so great. I imagine beethoven would have appreciated the way they arrange their instrumentals. It's not unlike a classical composition. Delicate high and lows, and power. All their instrumentals have such emotion. RIP Cliff. ♥️🤘

He used distortion chorus reverb and a wah pedal as a filter it kinda sucks that since his passing it's considered taboo to use those effects on the bass......cliff proved the bass could be a lead instrument

I'm a full time cook, can I make my own last meal? For the protein, I would have a cut of beef tenderloin, marinated in some sort of salty, oily marinade, char grilled until you get those beautiful black lines and then fired in the oven at 350, pull it at 140 degrees and let it sit. The steak would be cut into medallions and placed on top of handmade fettuccine with my alfredo sauce. It's roux based and then with the cream, cream cheese, and parmesan, I add minced garlic, sauteed serrano peppers, and chipotle powder, salt and pepper to taste. Probably make some handcut fries for the hell of it too. Drop them for a minute, hold them out for 5, drop them again until golden brown and toss them in garlic salt while they're still oily Then I would die happy.

These guy reactions are too accurate. I bet that almost all of us thought that all the solos were just guitars and that's it, the first time that we heard this masterpiece. Rest in Peace the God of bass players, Mr.Burton. Nice videos btw 🤘
@rodrigolj6 жыл бұрын
One thing that sets Orion apart from most of the instrumentals you'll listen to is that the bass guitar is at the core of the song. The sounds at the beginning of the song are from the bass, the first breakdown is the bass, and the penultimate solo is a bass solo. Plus, many parts where you might think are just repetitive riffs are filled with different drum breakdowns that never repeat their beats. You have a song that each of the three instruments have their limelight. That's what makes it special.
@MrDeengels5 жыл бұрын
It’s Cliffs opus, the first break of the song with a cliffs playing is what made me love music. The composition aspect is his greatness.

Buckethead is mental. I am going through all of his solo music, about half way through I already have picked out 10 hours of music I could listen to daily. The studio version of Soothsayer is beautiful, the cleanest Buckethead's song, ideal for a beginner :)

I got a question for you Alex...do you listen to any metal songs that you haven't posted a reaction video to? Do you try to stick to only the songs that you've reacted to? If so, how hard is it for you to resist delving further into some of the bands that you really seem to enjoy (bands like Slipknot, Trivium, etc.)?
@EddieLJ186 жыл бұрын
This was one of Metallica's finest moments. The epitome of music speaking instead of the lyrics. Absolute perfection, heavy metal on its pure form. Few bands or songs have incarnated the feeling so faithfully. Plus, you should watch the version of the film Through the never ending. Waaaaaay more sentimental.
@bobbyfan4186 жыл бұрын
Their first instrumental, "The call of Ktulu", is on "Ride the Lightening". It's beautiful, soft, and heavy, and you can hear Cliff going off in the background. Phenomenal, when you hear it at a loud volume.
