Brotha e Films this specific dance style. It's usually called hip hop, but since hip hop is really an umbrella term with different subgenres, newstyle is a specific style of dance that combines new jack swing and social hip hop into a single style. Some people add popping, locking, tutting, floorwork etc, but its core is the groove and attitude aspects. its a pretty diverse style imo

Cervello new jack swing is not a dance style, hip hop is hip hop I've had these discussions with Henry Link Buddha stretch they've been adding popping elements house locking into hip hop for years it doesn't make it "style" it's just hip hop

You see I used to take that viewpoint, but the fundamental issue I see is that hip hop started with toprocking and uprocking initially, breaking elements fundamentally. So I can't ignore that what we see as "hip hop" now was a totally different concept before hand. If I want to conceptualize this particular derivative of hip hop, something thats unrelated to turfing, jooking, breaking, getting lite etc to someone who is not familiar with the style its self, its easiest to call it newstyle. Its already a name thats gained popularity, and its something that I feel people will have to roll with In the same way that people want to call boom bap "actual hip hop" when calling boom bap ignores the predecessors(like funk breakdowns and jazz hop) and the styles that derived directly from it. Each subgenre has different specific criteria that you look for, which is why using hip hop, a collective term from everything fashion to music, is borderline disrespectful to the culture.
