By far one of Pete's greatest productions and that's saying TONS about the best to ever live.

Oh man, just the way he chopped that Det Emeralds drums, no one could’ve ever chopped em as good as he did, amazing beat . Plus, the story of the bassline, the sample, the arrangement, the sound coming in i think from Hugo Montenero, what a track

Not really. This was the sound of NY and Chicago at the time. Jazz was the staple foundation of hip hop at the time. Go listen to Jazzmatazz by Guru, all of Tribe's first three albums, Common's early albums, even 2Pac had a jazzhop record on his 1995 album Me Against The World called Temptations.

It is undoubtedly thee absolute best usage of EL. It's so far and above every other rendition, and that's DURING a phase where Pete consciously began paring down. HM sends it through the roof. One of the greatest beats of all time
@jonathanbailey1597Ай бұрын
@@rubendominguez5260 So is it ahead of its time or are today’s hip hop library beats just trying to emulate the Pete Rock sound of the early to mid 90s? Perspective is key. If you lived back then you’ll see most of these new beats as just a retrograde attempt to copy Pete Rock. Hip hop was different back then. Culture was different back then. Values were different back then
