My first SLR was a Contax S2. My Second was the Contax AX... it was unfortunate that Kyocera bailed in 2005... To be honest, Sony was really dumb with the A7 and the A6000 series. ALL E-mount lenses should have been FOCUS FREE with focusing done the way the Contax AX did it -- by moving the Sensor plane. With mirrorless designs, there is no longer a mirror box, a pentaprism and a film transport. All that is left is a sensor the size of a postage stamp and not much heavier. Moving it back on forth is a piece of cake! This would have made the lenses so much simpler. If they wanted to they could still have retained the focus motor contacts on the mount for moving things like floating elements on Macro lenses, but this should have been the exception rather than the norm.

Your idea is very interesting. If there was a digital mirrorless camera like CONTAX AX, it would have created a lens with a very innovative design.

I have an Ax it’s too big and cumbersome. It’s a good idea that Ax but slow autofocus too while normal autofocus cameras are way faster.

@@bonghungk7544 That is because the AX is moving the pentarism, the eyepiece group, the film transport, the reflex mirror and the shutter. A mirrorless camera will only need to move the CMOS sensor which is lighter than the typical internal focus element in a wide aperture prime lens.

@@dwightlooi it would still be bigger than just a regular mirrorless camera on what you’re saying. I’m in a market now for a mirrorless camera probably aiming for a Canon so I can mount my CY lenses. No company wants to do what you’ve suggested because it’ll be more complicated and fragile the mirrorless body and it’ll detract from buying oem lenses with their autofocus lenses.
