The island itself was thought to be a secret easter egg in pre-cata WoW, as most players never got to the part of the quest where they're supposed to visit it. This was a really interesting list and fun to watch, but man, when he was pronouncing the places or NPCs in Northrend, it was difficult to listen to because I'm Icelandic, because lots of the places and names are similar to Icelandic, and the vrykul language is really similar to Icelandic, making it easy for us here to understand it. And hearing him pronounce simple words like 'fjord', making it sound like 'fdjord', made me cringe a bit :P putting all these 'dj' sounds where it should sound more like an 'y'. But enough rambling from me! Tl;dr version is that I totally agree with you, just had to rant a bit :P

When you were talking about the H.P. Lovecraft and the Old God references, the name Azeroth actually comes from the TV show Legend of the Seeker, a place mentioned in the show, which was made before Azeroth in WoW. There are actually a lot of Legend of the Seeker references in WoW, such as The Seeker title.

Except that Howard Phillip and his author friends created the character/concept decades before the invention of Television. Legends of the seeker borrowed it from Lovecraft. H.P. was pen pals with a bunch of authors(August Derlith,Robert Bloch and others) and they liked his Cthulhu Mythos so much they added their own characters to it while writing similarly themed books. They would craft characters based on each other and kill them of in various ways as a sort of one ups manship.
