Kyle has a way of working with the world around him. He manages the grounds of a non-profit part time, maintaining their walking paths and garden spaces. He saw a grown up area full of brush and bramble, he knew it would be a great spot of a garden. As hew as clearing it out and making room for plant beds, he ran into a few obstacles. The soil is very rocky and there were stumps left. These pieces that he planned on removing, actually make a way for the garden space to exist within itself.

Hello from west Tennessee, I love this man’s philosophy and ethics. He gave me an idea for a strawberry planting project with wood instead of rocks so that when I get chickens they won’t be digging up the plants. Here in Tennessee, at least where I am, there’s no rocks. In the foothills of the cascades on the west side where I grew up, on the other hand, you can build rock walls with a 100’x500’ garden space. As a teenager, I hauled hundreds of pounds of rocks on a homemade wooden sled and literally built a rock wall around the horseshoe driveway

@@SOEtacticalgear I believe that my wife and I attended a SRF in February of last year and we enjoyed all of the information we harvested from the event. Thank you to all who were responsible for putting the festival together and having it run smoothly. Bill and Cate, 40 Shades of Green Farm, Jackson Tennessee

We had a successful garden, small, but then I tried expanding, and we could not keep up. It is discouraging, and i am still not used to Texas vs Connecticut, totally different times gor planting

That is a huge change in geography! Make sure you give yourself some grace! ❤️ As I am learning myself, it's okay to not have a huge garden; and if you do have a huge garden, it is also okay if it doesn't look instagram perfect. ❤️ Just keep growing 😊

You could plug in Brussels sprouts into the Thyme bed after the tomatoes are done, just an idea

Hi from mid Michigan, note to the wise, there's no NPK to speak of in any compost so don't fall into that trap. Compost will never feed your soil or plants it's just great for the build up of soil.

Hi!! I’m curious where you have received that information? Is there a specific scientific study you are referencing?
@ronalddavis5905
@ronalddavis5905 3 ай бұрын
Google it and it has some NPK but not enough to feed plants. I used it for feeding my plants til 5 years ago when my friend told me your plants aren't very big and I said I have a lot of compost around them and mixed in the soil, if your compost isn't all finished and you mix it in the soil it will suck all the nitrogen out of the soil to finish itthat's the way the ground and dirt works.

@@ronalddavis5905 oh interesting. I’m sure it depends on many things.

This is so false it’s hilarious 😂😂😂 you are the epitome of “just trust me, bro”. Compost is 1000% a source of ALL plant nutrients, especially NPK. Source: I have a Masters in Soil Engineering, and am a professional Farmer 😂

For additional context, most finished compost is around 3-2-2, but can be as low as 1-0.5-0.5. The key insight here is that much of the NPK is locked up in the microbes, so when you measure NPK directly, you are not measuring the giant surplus of microbes. They don’t register in our measurements, unless you run your sample through a digester before measuring. After a digester, you will get something like a 7-5-10 (tends to be heavy in potassium after things are digested). It can vary a lot tho. Compost acts as a slow-release NPK fertilizer, with the added benefit that it is almost impossible to “burn” your plants from over-application. Plus you get all the beneficial microbes which will propagate through your soil. Plants primarily feed on dead microbes. This is a commonly misunderstood fact that explains why compost works so well
