Avul Pakir Jainulabdeen Abdul Kalam (Tamil: அவுல் பகீர் ஜைனுலாப்தீன் அப்துல் கலாம்) born 15 October 1931 in Rameshwaram, Madras Presidency, British India (now Tamil Nadu, India), usually referred to as Dr. A. P. J. Abdul Kalam , was the 11th President of India, serving from 2002 to 2007,[2] he was elected during the tenure of the National Democratic Alliance (India) coalition government, under prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee.[3] During his term as President, he was popularly known as the People's President.[4][5]
Before his term as India's president, he worked as an aeronautical engineer with DRDO and ISRO. He is popularly known as the Missile Man of India for his work on development of ballistic missile and space rocket technology.[6] In India he is highly respected as a scientist and as an engineer.
Kalam played a pivotal organisational, technical and political role in India's Pokhran-II nuclear test in 1998, the first since the original nuclear test by India in 1974.[7] He is chancellor of Indian Institute of Space Science and Technology(Thiruvanthapuram), a professor at Anna University (Chennai) and adjunct/visiting faculty at many other academic and research institutions across India.

Laboratoires for Scientific and Technical R & D.* *Ex President Dr APJ Abdul Kalam was very secular minded person. When he visited a Buddhist Monestry in Tawang, Himachal Pradesh and he laid down the corner stone of New Nalanda University, in Bihar, these two interactions with Buddhist Monks and a third incidence of dream he experienced in Ranchi when he had a miraculous escape from Helicopter crash on 30 Sept 2001 got an insight and he made up his mind to visit Mahabodhi Temple, Bodhgaya and he did visit once..!* *One journalistic asked Dr Kalam **_"How come you are visiting a Buddhist Temple..?"_** He humbly answered:* *_What is harm in visiting a Scientist to another Great Scientist of this World..?_* *What an answer he gave was beyond one's comprehension..!* *It proves his praise to Lord Buddha and his status of dignity, whereas your's Mr Ramnath Kovid...?? You made any fiasco of yourself..??* *Once he was on the panel of UPSC Selection Board for post of a Vice Chancellor, he asked only one question to every candidates "Where are your parents..?" All other faculty members were astonished, why this old man is asking same question to every candidate..? One member dare to ask him. And Dr Kalam said "If a candidate is not able to take care of his parents, how come he could be able to take care of future generation.. ?"* *This exhibits his true intelligentsia.. and unquestionable quality of oneness.. and Unity in diversity..!* *We cannot forget his close observation and his concern for Indian social structure and its unscientific development since 3000 years when he read an Art 51A of Indian Constitution..!Once he uttered in an interview with a forum of journalist at Rashtrapati Bhavan.. His words are still remarkable:* *_India is not a nation it is just a population..!_* *_Our country is not poor but our thinking is poor..!_* *What a reality of truth..!! This is an eye opener legacy he has left for every political leaders and Indian citizen of too..! He cherished at his heart **_"There is no victory causing suffering to humanity..!"_** When will we understand this in its right spirit...!* *Feku Mr Modi has installed his statue at his native place, Dhanushyakoti, Rameshwaram showing a non existing saraswati's Veena in his hands, instead of Violin he was fond of to play..! This is on advise of his mentor. It is an insult of a legendary great Scientist and Ex-President of India.. made by saffron terrorist mind set which has captured the power over holy Parliament..!* *Save Constitution..!* *Save India..!*

you are right but since he belongs to a tamil speaking muslim family, there is no alphabet F and Z in tamil language hence it is pronounced as PA and J that is the reason his name is read as Avul packir jainulaabedin abdul kalam. Anyway as Shakespeare says "whats in a name, a rose will be a rose whether we call it rose or not", so it is not the name which defines a man but his legacy, his work, his attitude and character defines a person.
