These machines with the Saxaphone shape horn produce a very good tone with wide frequency response only bettered by the re-entrant machines

Hi Jake , the Gold plating is the original from 1925 however they protected this with a coating of lacquer which was in poor condition , this i removed using methylated spirit then re-lacquered items with metal lacquer to protect the gold plating

Absolutely stunning machine. I inherited a cheap gramophone cabinet and whilst it's fun for me, it's got nothing on that beauty you have. I wonder if I could got plate the metal like in yours?
@fitang12 жыл бұрын
Yes you can get your tone arm re plated will have to check up metal platers in your area contact them state your request & see if they can come up with the goods its not cheap but the resulta are stunning well worth the effort !

@@fitang1 You think it might work? Here's a link to my channel that shows my old gramophone. It's full of shiny steel - or is it nickel plate? It might not be financially viable to gold plate it all on what is an aged machine, kzbin.info/www/bejne/g6HaaaVsftx-f8k

Hi Graham, Check out E-Bay , under Gramophones or Phonographs, they come up here occasionaly , watch out for the Indian Fake ones they do not have the heavy lead base or brass top "Dance floor", mind you they are not cheap!

@@fitang1 Many thanks Tom---much appreciate your reply and have to say that the condition of your gramophone is exemplary and a joy forever---well done ! I shall keep my eyes open and if you hear of another magnetic dancer please let me know. I do happen to have a spare 511 horn plus slats if you are in need.

Hi Tom. Beautiful HMV machine. I´m interested in buying the same gramophone here in Colombia, but I realized it does not have the original sound box. Could you tell me please the model of the Original gramophone sound box of the 511 HMV model? What is the name of the piece shown in 0:22 (indicator? gage? pointer?) Thank you so much and congratulations.. you have a treasure.
@胜利留声机4 жыл бұрын
It’s the oringinal HMV NO.4 soundbox,and the piece is speed control.

Why does the reproducer sit at that odd angle?
@fitang13 жыл бұрын
The reproducer is usually set @ 60 degrees as the correct playing angle to the record if it was vertical the needle would cause rapid wear to the record surface
@mannysanguena79003 жыл бұрын
@@fitang1 Sorry. I did not mean from the view point looking toward the diaphragm. I meant as you lowered the soundbox at a view point looking toward the edge of the diaphragm. The soundbox appeared to descend too low. That looks like a No. 4 reproducer? Was it original to the machine? Is the tone arm original? It also could mean the turntable is too low.
@fitang13 жыл бұрын
@@mannysanguena7900 Hi, The sound box is the original that would have been fitted to these & other HMV machines of this period the tonearm is also original to this machine , I think its the camera angle that gives the apperance of it being too low
@mannysanguena79003 жыл бұрын
@@fitang1 perhaps it is the camera.

Surely the back isn't open that would do some damage with dust and other things like bugs and other debris flying in the air.
