No it wasn't. His aorta wasn't cut all the way through so they saved him. But he was never the same after that and retired from NHL soon after as far as ai can remember. To the other tragedy that resulted in death of a player where the other player was arrested for the same thing, I still oppose the emotional view of others that it was intentional with malicious intent. It is hard not to get emotional about these kinds of injuries. Hockey is inherently very dangerous sport in many ways and you never know if the game you're playing won't be your last one (crippling injury). But nobody who plays the game thinks he might be the one....as far as I know. It always happens to the other guys is the mental approach. I said it before but it's a miracle that there are not many more of these injuries in hockey.
