Do you think the legacy of stunt performers overshadows the potential risks they take for their craft?

For the ones who died doing something they loved - I'm expecting the same fate. I'm 79 years old, so by the law of averages, I don't have too long to go, so I'll probably die doing something I love - living at 83 years of age - or more than 79 in any case!

It didn't occur to Mad Mike to wear a parachute in case the one on the rocket failed? The earth isn't flat but Mike was after he hit it.

So a flat earther that builds rockets in his garage died flying said rocket to prove the earth is flat?! What a surprise! But he did prove he can be flat against a flat surface. So theres that.

the explanation given for the last disaster for butch laswell does not sound right: the amount of missing the ramp looks like being due to a miscalculation of the motorcyle speed, the distance between the two ramps and the first ramp angle, considerably more than how much a wind disturbance could distract his jump. the wind would most likely distract the jump by a couple of feet or yards maximum, unless there was a tornado or hurricane there at that moment which does not seem to be the case based on the video, like how much the flag shakes, whereas the height difference between his position above the target ramp and where he was supposed to land on it appears to be more than 5-6 yards; plus there is no lateral distraction from the ramp and the motorcycle seemed to be within the width of the target ramp while a random wind would likely side track it away too and not just push it ahead above it. In simple words, whoever designed this setup didn't seem to have done the right math and physics with the jump speed, ramps distance and angles and perhaps just blamed it on "a sudden gust of wind" to get away from lawsuit, insurance costs and so on. the wind scenario, although not impossible, sounds very unlikely compared to the miscalculation and bad engineering hypothesis ..

This really reminds me of the fools that get killed climbing up half dome. I never have been a daredevil. I think there’s other ways of living life and living it safely. I used to ride motorcycles. Dirt bikes. And until I went down one time. That was the last time I sprang my foot so bad that my toes were swollen. And my whole foot will turn black and blue. I have a safe hobby I wiped down on a motorcycle in 1971 and picked up a guitar in 1974. I’ve been playing guitar for 51 years. That’s a safe hobby. I haven’t put a scratch on my body in 51 years ha ha I’d rather be safe than to be sorry. The age of saying is a pound of prevention is worth a pound of cure. Be safe live life safely not dangerously. Have a great day wherever you are. And live life to the fullest but live safe.👍❤️ I feel for those ones who have died. They’ve died by their own mistakes and their own foolishness. Nature and calculations only give you one chance. The other one is death.☠️💀 so sad but let alone so stupid. I feel I don’t have to prove anything to anybody. Somebody’s always trying to make a big impression.😖😡👎🤷♂️ I wonder why🤷♂️🤷♂️😖

Please stop referring to these accidents as tragedies: they are the predictable results of foolish choices! Fear of heights is there in our DNA for a reason and we ignore that fear at our peril: as night follows day sooner or later something WILL go wrong.

It's not uncommon for surgeons to become involved in very dangerous sports hobbies - they are facing life versus death on a daily basis and they know more than anyone how easily/quickly your life can hang on a thread... the surgeons I worked with did these dangerous hobbies because it made them feel alive, reminding them how precious life is and to embrace every moment as your last...

Interesting. I’m a retired surgeon and I was an avid rock/ice climber and mountaineer before cancer forced my retirement from both my career and my somewhat dangerous hobby. It’s possible the disease prolonged my life I suppose.

My two oldest sons are pro Freestyle motocross riders and boy has that sport evolved! It's still very dangerous but the safety features available to the riders today are so much better. But any minor miscalculation can cause horrible injuries and even death. People who practice these sports are wired different from the rest of us and I have witnessed that first hand, their tolerance for pain, their fearlessness and cold calcutions, their drive to do more. It's an amazing group of people to be around but I still get really nervous when I watch them ride. Surprisingly the number of riders we've lost over the years is lower than one might think. It's not a sport to dabble in though cuz it can kill you if you don't know what you're doing. RIP to all the extreme athletes who paid the ultimate cost reaching for the ultimate thrill 🖤🖤🖤

I heard he didn't really believe the earth was flat. He just claimed it to get support from the other flat earthers. Either way, he was still a bit crazy to fly a homemade rocket. He crashed once before and barely survived that time.

Can we make something clear? 10:00 ... Mike believed the earth was flat, which makes him a moron. He wanted to fly a rocket to about 1/7th the height I have been to on an international jet using technology similar to the water rockets I had as a kid in the 60s. So apparently, I have been higher than Mike (excepting whatever cocaine and peyote he was ingesting) and it cost me less. Not only that, I visited one of the most beautiful women I have ever seen and got laid. Mike went 1/7th that height, and died like a bug under a fly swatter. Poof, he went.

Climbing ropes are dynamic, that is they stretch to reduce the shock of a fall. That both reduces the shock to the climbers body and lessens the chance the rope will break as it’s loaded. I suspect those rope swingers didn’t accommodate for the dynamic nature of their rope. Like the previous swingers they obviously should have done test using a 165 lb weight of some kind before attaching a human to the rope.
