I got to spend time with an old racehorse named Tattoo up in the UP at a Dude Ranch years ago. I got help in the barns and with taking the horses out for their morning exercise runs. Tattoo would come up and lay next to me when I was reading my book. He would also get mad if I rode another horse. There were only a few of us there but I always got first pick and the barn manager would let me go on lone runs in the pasture. We spent two weeks there, it was only supposed to be one but we fell in love with the place. I wish we had gone back, as they are closed now I believe. I tried to go work there years ago, they had staff that were transfer students in high school and college from all over the world. But Tattoo was my favorite. The barn manager said she had never seen him take to anyone the way he did with me before. Tattoo got REALLY upset with the boat driver because he would purposely throw me off the water tube. The pasture came to the lake a bit and was yelling everything I got flipped off the tube. When we were done, the first chance he got, he went and nipped the drivers ass. Many of their horses were rescues including an 11yr old Arabian who acted like foal when his handler/owner brought his favorite mix of Apples oats and carrots. They were ALL characters.

You know NOTHING about competition horses. They ADORE it. They recognise the preparations and they start getting excited more and more and they would be racing 🐎 to get in their horse trailers. My family are into professional horse sports, they were the main competition for the British royal family and greats friends with Prince Philip and most of the royal family. They say with the late Queen having picnics watching the carriage racing. They have grand national champion horses and dressage horses carriage racing horses. They ADORE competing. And when they retire they actually get really sad seeing the preparations knowing they're not going. They genuinely do love it. Yes there used to be some insane stuff in animal care, it happened in EVERY society that interacted with animals because we didn't have real evidence. It's ridiculous to write off millions of animal lovers as abusers. NOBODY loves their animals more than horse owners. My family did it as a hobby. They had a VERY successful business and they invested MILLIONS into caring for and pampering their horses. When you choose the right breed and the right horse and care for them the results are AMAZING. They LOVED working with their human and they build incredibly strong bonds to humans and they really do love racing. And they ABSOLUTELY know when they're the best. 😂 Even when they're not working they race their buddies in the paddocks all day long. They DON'T enjoy getting old and retiring any more than human athletes do. It's a sad day. And just because they're standing around eating grass all day doesn't mean they're happier than when they were racing. These horses clearly still have the competitive instincts and enjoyed it because it naturally fits them personally. You can't just take any random human and make them a professional athlete. Same with horses. You can't just make any horse a champion 🏆 it takes the right parents the right rider and the right trainer all doing exactly what they needed to to achieve a champion horse. The horse HAS to love it. And you can breed all you want but you don't know their character till they're born and first out in the paddock. Then you see the one who loves racing around all day. The one instigating his buddies to race him. They also have to be physically PERFECT to handle racing. And yes their owners are absolutely DEVASTATED when they are injured or have to be put to sleep. They grieve them like a human. And they will always talk about them like a lost sibling. Horse owners will regularly put their lives on hold for their animals. Oh it's raining heavily tonight so I'm going to sleep with the horses. Oh he looked a little off colour today I'm staying with him. Hell it's made them miss many occasions. One almost missed her sisters wedding and she was the MAID OF HONOUR. ☠️🤦♀️😂 NO other animal is MORE pampered than a competition horse. Because otherwise they wouldn't make it in competition. Try learning. Instead of assuming. If you were forced to train like an athlete you wouldn't handle it. But that doesn't mean it's cruel athletes train like that. You literally couldn't force a horse to race or do anything against its will. If the horse didn't enjoy it they WOULDN'T do it. But they're raring to go. BECAUSE THEY ENJOY IT.

Horses without pasture time are clumsy ponies, breaking their hella expensive legs. Aaaand instead of crying and artificial anger and sadness, you could do something. Like learning about Racehorses. Most racehorses have months of freedom each year. The legendary steeplechaser, Desert Orchid had the whole summer chilling out on pasture every year that he raced.
@TallulahFoxxxАй бұрын
I have family that train racehorses (purely flat racing) and also offer livery services. We call the down time their “summer holidays” 😂👌🏻 People think racehorses are treated badly and of course, depending on the country and trainers, there will be some bad situations. However, ignoring the ethical issues and welfare concerns, purely considering how much these horses are worth… they’re not mistreated. They’re spoilt lol ❤ At my family’s yard, they’re treated like giant puppies. Importantly, most racehorses enjoy racing. Running in herds is instinctual behaviour. When they’re not training (which they get excited for lol), they’re enjoying leisure time in very large paddocks with their friends. They get fed special tasty diets, groomed and pampered. During the summer, as you said, they have nothing but lazy days and (approved) treats. When I visit in the summer, I occasionally go on hacks and the meadow that leads back to the yard is a long, flat stretch (one particular owner is a family friend so I was allowed to ride his horses outside training). They’d literally have to be held back, whinnying all excited because I wanted to make sure the path was totally clear (dog walkers, leisure walkers/hikers also use this route). As soon as it was clear and I gave the go ahead, they’d gallop at top speed because it’s fun for them 😂💕 Of course, all training yards are different but where my family’s yard is (Ireland) we know all the trainers in the area and they’re treated near identically. They’re worth far too much money to mistreat for a start, but they also get spoilt and kissed and cuddled by the trainers and stable staff lol ❤
