This is why women have to have high standards. Otherwise being accepting and loving will become a limiter, will be seen as such and most likely 100% of the blame for man’s weakness will land on that type of woman. Cause at some point in time she chose him and probably tolerated his laziness/unwillingness to be the best version of himself for a while…

Why is the wife wrong to leave him when he was a lazy loser? These stories are presented like the man or woman that gets in shape is the good guy. But aren't they really just losers that only got their stuff together after being dumped? Why are the ones who left them the bad ones for having standards? Should you stay with a an unfit loser? Should romantic love be unconditional? They're your spouse not your parent. If you fail to meet a standard or tirn into a loser they aren't wrong to leave. Imagine they did this BEFORE their s/o rejected them. The woman stayed for 13 years. She wasted her life on a failed man for years and he's all of the sudden aeen as a success for pulling himself together after all that time? Why? I see a loser that sat on his ass half his life then finally pulled it together. Not a good guy in the story.

Thank you. There something more to this. People don’t just throw away 13 years. Especially women. And being a divorced woman in Japan is still taboo. I can only guess from having worked in human behavior and family psychology. That sometimes a person, Male or female can become disappointed about the way their life is. And she could have been perfectly okay with him being “fat and bald” but he was the one insecure about it which could have changed his mood and personality and it made him miserable to be around. We never know with these things. What if he was always accusing her of wanting someone else because he no longer looked the way he did when they first got together. And it got to be too exhausting for her and she called a quits. There was a good movie I watched years ago called Celeste and Jesse forever. It was such a good movie. They loved each other but in spite of their love for each other he wasn’t willing to grow up until after they divorced and he found someone else. Because she had already shown him that she wasn’t willing to hold him accountable and would stick by him through anything. And some people will resent you for that as crazy as it seems. They think you are the weak one.

Exactly , his first wife did nothing wrong. And also if his second wife saw the man that his first wife saw then this wouldn't have a happy ending (One more thing ,I my self would not leave a partner ,specially at their lowest point. And I would not agree with part where you said should romantic love be unconditional , since we are talking about spouse I would not put it any less. But I do agree on the part it was justifying her to leave)

@Allenw154
@Allenw154 4 ай бұрын
Nah, there's always two sides to a story. He had given up on himself for over a decade. Probably nagged him about his weight for a decade, but at least, she still stuck with him for a decade. And he wasn't willing to improve himself for her that whole time, but willing to improve himself to spite her. Not saying she's right, but he isn't either. People are never just black and white.

Disagree. He let himself go beyond the point he even hated himself. I'm sure wife begged him to improve himself but he wasn't willing to do ANYTHING. Only after wife finally had enough and left him he found the motivation to spite her. Do you think his new wife will stay with him if he was like before? Absolutely no. That's why he's maintaining his physique, he learned that lesson the hard way

Inspiring story. We also don't know exactly why his wife left. There may have been a lot of reasons he hasn't mentioned. If someone is not taking care of their own physical and emotional needs, they may not be a supportive partner either.
