This is a video where I return to the Historathon after a bit of a gap - and discuss the gap and what I want to do about it. Ultimately I want to do some catching up in the next couple of months and see Q3 as having some Q2 in it too so that I don't ignore stuff that I want to read but didn't get to.
The Historathon is a great year long event where we look at History books from different periods.
The goal is to read, discuss, and spotlight works of history, and to encourage reluctant readers to give history a try. The calendar year will be divided into three-month blocks, with each block focusing on a particular period of time:
Jan-March = Prehistory-500 CE
April-June = 500-1500
July-Sept = 1500-1820
Oct-Dec = 1820-Present
To participate, simply read a work of history that falls into the time period for each quarterly segment of the year. Read more if you’d like! Tailor the choices to your interests or try something completely new.
Historathon "Side Quests": We will also be encouraging/participating in history-related activities throughout the year, including watching historical films/documentaries, trying historical recipes, listening to historical music, etc. Feel free to join us!
We will be using the hashtag: #historathon2024

If a chunk of a book deals with the time period, even if the rest doesn’t, it totally counts. I read The Great Leveler last year. It was informative but very much an economical history book. Miracles of Our Own Making has been on my radar. I’m pretty sure it spans all four quarters. That Resistance to Christianity book looks fantastic.

Some interesting books. I also have several books that span a bigger time period and am not always sure where to fit them into Historaton. I think most watchers are just interested in history and won't mind if it partly is in a different period.

With those cross quarter books, I tend to put them in the quarter where the most of the content fits 😊. So get where you’re coming from with trying to fit everything in. I’m reading The Story of Russia at the moment (Mark says it’s pronounce Fi - Jess 😊). Don’t feel guilty about what you are or are not reading, I overstretch myself all the time 😂

Forgot to say, I am amused The Restless Republic (which is also on my reading list this quarter) is written by Anna Keay (anarchy) 😂😂

I’ve never read any HistoricalFantasy….interesting blend…obviously the fantasy genre as a whole is influenced by History quite often. I will look those books up. Thanks Heidi.

@@bookssongsandothermagic Oh Gareth, Warlord is my absolute favorite after the LOTR! The first quarter of the first book is super slow but then it takes off and does not stop until the last page of the last book!! The Audiobook is highly recommended.😀
