Andrew Tate has ruffled the feathers of people all over the world with his unique view of the world. Many of the problems he identifies he blames on the decline of the west and often shares his view on how history led us to where we are now.
So today I will give a "historians" reaction (or "history influencer" I haven't decided which one is better yet) to many of the claims he makes whether its about the Roman Empire the British Empire of modern America.

The majority of areas ruled by the British in India, Andhra Tamil Nadu and the princely states close to the British are to this day way better off in terms of money, education and openness than their counterparts ruled by local kings, for example, Rajasthan, Kashmir, Hyderabad state (Telangana, which is still poor except for the city) where the Human developmental is to this day appalling.

Regarding the fall of empires I dont think comparing USA or The West to the roman empire or british empire is valid because usa is a country and the west is many countried and neither are expanding into othets territory and conquering land like the roman or british empire. So I dont think we will see a collapse of USA or The West like Rome collapsed in a sudden fashion. I just think countries like China will rise to be equals of USA in terms of power.

Not at all. I am from India. And there is a history that every Indian wants to forget. The British conquest was bank rolled by Indian businessmen. Because they say that the westerners diligently abided by their contracts. And unlike the Indian kings and ruling class, the westerners were not interested in others wives.

Same thing with The Beaver Wars in Canada as India, to an extent. The Iroquois were massacring tribes like the Huron and the Algonquin so they allied themselves with the French/Europeans for both military support and trade, which in turn fueled the expansion of British and French into the Great Lakes regions and eventually all of Canada...

Tate's analysis of the rise of the British raj is quite simplistic and one dimensional. The British weren't simply militarily powerful, they were adept in diplomacy, engineering, cartography, large organisational management and more, and that was even in the East India Company days. I wonder what research Tate's done to inform his opinions and historical understanding. I don't think he's thoroughly mistaken on what he does include, but it's what he doesn't include that matters. Also, his articulation of his view holds him back

@@designatedpiledriver8216yeah I agree. He implied most of those things through his "summary" that the British brought many things that made the people see them as better. Most of that understanding was clear, so I'm not sure if the original comment is referring to the military/conquering application of those things specifically. Because Andrew Tate did not explicitly list those things but he gave a generalization and then listed a few things in that subject and then said they were a huge part of why the Indians looked up to them. Even if he wasn't aware of one or more of those specific influences/effects, his main generalization that the British used their advancements to be friendly and welcome in India could easily cover those specific things. Maybe he isnt specifically knowledgeable about the diplomatic advancements that we cannot know. But we do know that he said they were likened by people and those people joined them. That takes a LOT of skill and covers almost any non military advancement in concept and that happens across any decade/era across any land. The amount of respect he speaks for the ability to bring people together and have them respect your culture is clearly at least close to if not more than what he gives to pure military might. Remember he is speaking on a video/podcast and he is limited on time. Most people would not think that deep not would they listen that deep if he went there. We have to start with general ideas first or we lose all attention and respect.

the channel is a massive joke: No, India was not divided as a single entity before the arrival of the British. The Indian subcontinent was home to various kingdoms, empires, and regional powers with distinct cultures, languages, and political systems. The territory was characterized by a diverse array of societies and political entities. Historically, different parts of the Indian subcontinent witnessed the rise and fall of various empires, such as the Maurya Empire, Gupta Empire, Mughal Empire, and numerous regional kingdoms. These entities often had their own boundaries and control over specific regions. The British colonial presence in India began with the establishment of the East India Company's trading posts in the 17th century. Over time, the British gradually expanded their control through colonization, annexations, and indirect rule. The British Raj, which lasted from the mid-19th century until 1947, marked a period of British dominion over most of the Indian subcontinent.

I think saying the British occupation was beneficial for India is a slight stretch. Yes, they modernized India, provided education, but they also kinda destabilized india during that time. The Raj contains India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, and Burma. It's kinda like the Berlin conference but less extreme. Uniting three different religious groups is a disaster. So It took many years after independence to restabilize (partition). Also, the generic killing wasn't the biggest problem you see in India. But the Bengali famine during ww2. India had >3 million men serving in ww2, to not supply India is to cut off future recruits for the military. Not even mentioning the moral implications of colonialism.
@TankManHeavy
@TankManHeavy 11 ай бұрын
I mean its easy to throw a blanket over the Bengali famine & point the finger but the fact of the matter is that the British Empire redirected 150,000 tonnes of barley/wheat from Iraq & Australia to Bengal, the shortage was yet another example of richer people panic buying supplies so that the poorer people couldn't afford it. We even saw it during the pandemic, people were whipped into a panic & bought out shit so there wasn't enough to go around. Furthermore, there was another 250,000 tonnes of food sent after the famine was declared. Here's an extract; "By January 1944, Bengal had received a total of 130,000 tons of barley from Iraq, 80,000 tons of wheat from Australia and 10,000 from Canada, followed by a further 100,000 from Australia. (British Colonies) Then, on 14 February 1944, Churchill called an emergency meeting of the War Cabinet to see if more food aid could be sent to Bengal without wrecking Allied plans for the coming Normandy landings." The extract further goes onto say that Churchill urged the Americans to send ships to Australia to transport a further million tonnes of wheat to India since the food was available but the British didn't have the ships required to transport it quick enough, the request was denied by the American president. Great Britain has & always will be proud to call the Indian people our brothers & sisters.
