Historic 100 Year Old Otis Elevator

(November 2023) Enjoy a look at a historic "sales sample" Otis elevator that was installed in the former Otis office in St. Louis, MO. I've typically seen elevator companies install an elevator of some kind in their office as a "showcase" for people to see. This one was installed in 1920 and it is still running strong today! It did sit for some years and not run, but it was lovingly restored to what you see now. I absolutely love the glass shaft on the second floor, original cab, and original buttons! Make sure you watch to the end to see the machine! I must give a huge shoutout to the people here who invited me to see this beautiful elevator!

A very well maintained vintage elevator, I noted the traction machine has two hoist ropes, I've seen a few of those. With the induction hum I heard I could tell it's an AC motor and the 3 starting relays and reversing phase relay on the controller board. The floor selector appears to be an integrated part top of the controller. Unless the motor was changed out at some point, it's probably running at a lower voltage than the more standard 440-460-480 VAC 3 phase. Preserve this historic elevator.
