I am outraged. This is a historical landmark. How was there no security of any kind? I used to see Bidwell mansion on my commute to work every day and I went on a tour as a kid there. It was a beautiful building and now it's gone.

Talk about being pissed off. Who heck is responsible for the protection and safekeeping of this historical icon?? WAS?? Why wasn't there a inkeeper that lived there?? To keep just this from happening? Never heard of cameras either?? Thanks alot . Hell I'd been honored to have been live-in keeper of this "was" one of a kind historical place in history. I'd been honored to just touch this home let alone walk it's floors!!! And here they let something like this come to be!!! Gone now. Ashes. All there is now is ashes and memories. Could and should of been protected of any downfall. What a sick shame. Disgraceful

Live-in keeper is kind of a stretch but I understand the frustration. I do believe there could have been more security/night guards in and outside the mansion along with more cameras. It was a beautiful mansion and had some great history. The tour I had of both inside and out was amazing. Very heartbreaking 😓

@nvrkhv I cant believe that such a place so rich in history would not have a live in keeper. How can it not? I can't believe there wasn't. What, too much money to hire a live in caretaker? Rent free in exchange for watching the place at best you know would of kept this from happening. Even whoever owns it couldn't even come up with a family member who could of lived there? I'm sure there were alot of folks who would of gave their arm or leg to be caretaker of such a place. Too late now. Can't cry over spilled milk. Well I would. I love milk. So yea I would cry over my spilled milk. I hope other places such as this one has better protection . I just cant see such a place as this ever being a burden that a person wouldn't want to protect it. By any means nessary at most. Most people it would be an honor to have this in their life let alone being counted on for continuing it's legacy. Gone now. I can scream and cry and rant and rave still has the same outcome. some insight as a parks employee in this district. we have about 12 park peace officer rangers who patrol lake oroville, sutter buttes, valley parks like sacramento river, woodson bridge, and the bidwell mansion. we have had multiple calls over dispatch in regards to previous break-ins at the mansion. mainly transient type folk. and when you have such little law enforcement presence for a huge area it’s hard to keep things safe. in liaison to rangers, chico state police also help out at bidwell mansion if there is a break in. it’s a huge bummer to lose it though :(
