Who ever is driving is a let down. The whole point of ground effect is so you don't slow down for corners. Or come off the road the guy in the Brabham behind had the idea.

hey don't enjoy the levels of downforce they used to have...I think the Lotus 88 is with the twin chassis locked so there won't slide down to touch the tarmac so it can get the full downforce...

The point of ground effect is not "so you don't slow down in the corners". It's so you can maintain grip in the corners and go faster than you would otherwise.

@magicmichele2 : no, it's te "Lotus 88" ! 88 is the chassis, not the year. That car was supposed to race in 1981, not 1979 ! it was banned, and never raced, until historic racing !

It's amazing how much the tub and the bodywork start moving at different rates on the grassy excursion and then everything it completely synchronised when it gets back on the tarmac. Pity the car never really worked when it was allowed to qualify for the '81 British GP and that it was never raced again after that.

It does look like the number 11 type 88 closing up on the camera car. How many of these were ever built? I've seen three of them in one place.

I think its banned because its not a full body... in a crash it might dmg the driver? No clue

@@jurgenbuntinx1 It was banned because the other teams were so mad that lotus "exploited" the moveable aerodynamics rule with the twin chassis design, the FIA agreed and banned the car

@@Kubickz welp, lotus.... their car are the least safe around f1 history. even 1970 champion jochen rindt was dcared of racing a lotus, and he was right his lotus 72 killed him.
