Great video Michael and team. I love learning about history and too many stories have been lost forever because they pre-date the digital era. Keep up the great work. Thanks for the videos.

Michael, you have created a great document and I greatly appreciate your helping to get the word out about the Wadsworth Mansion. I should have mentioned that Connecticut architect David Scott Parker guided the conservation of the mansion from a cast-off wreck of a building to its former glory. Middletown could not have done it without him! Looking forward to your next video! Joyce

The Cenacle (thats what we called it) was crazy to explore as a kid when it was abandoned and twice the size. I explored it many times before and after the big fire. I grew up in that neighborhood. I was always too into history to vandalize or set fires to places like this but I always loved to explore though. Glad it was renovated. Nice video man. I learned a lot about a place that was literally in my backyard my whole childhood. I think there is a connection to the dam you did a video at. I believe it was a pump house for the mansion but not 100% on that.

@@HighViewProductions yeah for sure but at least it had a good ending and wasn't demolished or burnt to the ground.

it's very sad that the place wasn't boarded up the first time. What a beautiful mansion. Thank you for the video. Catherine Reardon

I'm not an antique expert but those porcelain pieces were gravy boats not finger rinsing pieces. Finger rinsing pieces were usually round and smaller. Also the inscribed sword wouldn't be for military use. Though they don't show the sword itself. that looks like a ceremonial memento sort of a "souvenir". A gift, a trophy. Not a weapon.

I was surprised by the claim that McKim, Mead and White were responsible for the New York Public Library and the Breakers at Newport.

Great presentation. I love your dosen but I believe she might be mistaken regarding certain architectural assignments of the gilded age. It was, I believe, William Morris Hunt who designed “The Breakers” in Newport, not McKim, Mead & White. Hunt worked closely with the Vanderbilts, on many of their palatial homes. Hunt was either chief architect or a notable contributor to “Marble House” in Newport, RI, “Beacon Rock” just off Newport,Ri and the largest home in The United States, the Vanderbilt home, “Biltmore” in Asheville, North Carolina.

Is this related to Wadsworth Athenaeum? Apparently not. This is located in Middletown, Ct.

Great question, Steven. Yes, Colonel Clarence S. Wadsworth - who built the Wadsworth Mansion from about 1908 - 1911 - and Daniel Wadsworth - who founded the wonderful art museum in Hartford, the Wadsworth Athenaeum about 1840, were distantly related. Daniel Wadsworth's grandfather, John Wadsworth, and Colonel Wadsworth's great great great grandfather, Nathaniel Wadsworth (b. 1674) were brothers.

Daniel Washington was the son of colonel Jeremiah Wadsworth of Hartford Ct..Jeramiah was one of the wealthiest men in the original 13 States after the Revolution. Daniel had no children and his assets started the Antheneum.

Terrific video-a very valuable thing you are doing for history and just interest in stately old homes. If you don’t mind, I would like to suggest different music from what was used in the beginning of the video. Please consider using natural orchestral/classical music, instead of some sort of cheap-sounding digital video game-sounding stuff… This would really elevate the quality of your videos. I did notice some jazz as the tour began with the hostess, which was very nice.
