The first song is the best part of this video - Nelson Riddle's theme song from the early 1960s TV show _Route 66_. I regard it as #1 for uniqueness, because it was filmed in so many different locations. Of course, it's no accident that there has been no real attempt to replicate its magic. All that traveling was difficult for everyone involved, especially George Maharis, who developed hepatitis and eventually had to quit the show because of it. In contrast, I can see why so many sitcoms have been made over the decades. They're MUCH easier to film, because nearly everything can be shot in the same studio with the same few sets. Outdoor filming and changes of location are the exception rather than the rule. Most of the cast remains the same from episode to episode. Although _Route 66_ was filmed not that many years before I was born, it feels ancient to me. (I'm part of the Goonies and Saved By The Bell Generation.) Although _Route 66_ is only 10 years older than _The Brady Bunch_ and _The Partridge Family_, it feels more like 50 to 100 years older to me. _Route 66_ shows what the country was like before Interstate highways and chain businesses took over.

I've only ever seen one episode of Route 66. That episode actually turned me off the series, because it took place in Florida, about as far in the nation AWAY from Route 66 you could get.

@@Roadklahoma I know that many episodes took place far away from Route 66, but I never let that ruin my enjoyment of the show. I liked seeing episodes from many parts of the country. The title was a metaphor that represented the spirit of wanderlust and adventure, not proximity to the most well-known highway of the time.
