One person at the hot springs said he once ruined 4 tires driving into the valley. It's part of the National Park but it's not a maintained road. The hot springs are amazing though - I'd been told the best in the state, which is why I did the 3 hour long washboarded drive in a sedan. I was very lucky my tires held up. @@rubiconadventurewithscotty3258 Legally it's not wilderness area. Wilderness areas are very specifically defined. Simply being undeveloped National Park (or BLM) does not make it wilderness. Years ago rangers caught a guy with his jeep well beyond the boundary. They busted him and besides any fines he may have paid he was ordered bu the court to remove it via only muscle power. Ok, I plan to ignore the hate, but this is how I feel. First, I am truly sick and tired of our government spending our money on things that do not make any difference to the majority of tax payers. Who among us knew about this and better yet, who among us has the means to get to that location? Why can't there be a sign explaining what happened there and maybe art showing what it originally looked like. That would save a bunch from that fund to be spent on graffiti repair on the sides of mountains that some of us might be able to see. In fact, I would argue that repairing the petroglyphs is far more important. And, to not let this man off the hook, lets have him out , beginning in September, cleaning national parks for a certain amount of time. Or if that isn't suitable, have the parks put it to a vote on their site. Yes, I realize this man did wrong by ignoring the signs. But he didn't murder anyone. He may not have the money to pay for everything that this restoration cost. And only a handful of people will see it. Put him to work. Put a sign out there. And fix what needs done for the majority of us.

It appears the Toyota driver got about 100 ft past teh warning signs then started to sink, panic set in and attempted to turn around. Centrifugal force caused outside wheels to dig in and Toyota Independent suspension stuffed him onto his belly. No bueno but respect for that impressive, next level of pure Testosterone induced Bravado

Tell them to get a grip! For Pete’s sake. It’s the dang desert. Hardly anyone goes out there.

@@gracieg7601 Well I go out there, I love the access to "The middle of nowhere". This was maybe a mistake on his part, but he should own up and take his lumps. Most of the dirt roads within 50 miles of my house are now gated off because of abuse and/or fire danger. That's why responsible off roaders get bent when this and/or purposeful vandalism happens.

The bonehead had no business there in the first place. That’s why we can’t have nice things. If the genius had hooked his cable to the base of the tower instead of the upright, it probably would have stayed put. It’s called ‘leverage’. Guy should be fined

People never learn if the punishment for stupidity does not hurt.
@marzsit98337 ай бұрын
exactly. the numbnut didn't want to get on his knees to attach the winch line and attached it too high, then wasn't bright enough to watch the tower and stop pulling when it clearly wasn't going to work. experienced off-roader? i don't think so. probably an off-road poser with lots of shiny new gear but no clue how to use any of it.
@davidmorris48267 ай бұрын
That's just what I was thinking. If they would have used some common sense. And hooked up down low at the base.That would have been the end of the story. No damage no story.

Here in the Adirondack Mountains is the ghost town of Tahawus where my Grandparents lived which was a mining town and in 1963 there was a huge deposit of lead and titanium dioxide which was what was mined by the company that was found under the town. So, the town, what parts of it could be, were moved. The church and a few buildings were moved and everyone who lived there had to move out. In 1982 the company itself ceased operations. So from then on, people were sneaking into the buildings, taking photos, and until only a few years back, climbing in the abandoned houses that hadn't been lived in since 1963, which here with the rain and snow every year were in various states of collapse. So the state and the company finally tore down just about everything because of all the damage being done as well as the risk of someone getting hurt and where this town is, there isn't anything within 20 miles and in the mountains, no cell service or even a main road to get in or out. So stuff like this happens everywhere.

Classy response . Would'nt expect anything less from "a knowing bird". Hope ya not offended by being called a bird, it's just the "tongue" over here in Albion. I'm a bloke, for context which originally meant "a chap from the lower orders". Love ya stuff.

well sarah, as an ATV'er i can say if i were in his shoes, and went past the blm signs and all this hooorah happened to me, i think i would feel responsible, but when the guvmnt came-a knockin, i guess since i'm on retirement and don't have a ton of cash to toss around, i would see if they could at least offer me some sort of mercy, or payment plan, i mean like you said....YES he was a pure dumb, dumb for going out there, but in that instance i would have done the same thing to try to get unstuck.....i just feel like i wouldn't go past the signs, knowing how, for the most part i do try to respect signage....even if it is from the guvmnt. 👎

Hum...when it comes to survival I'd rather be tried by 12 rather then carried home by 6. He will be heavily fined! He confessed, my brother did something similar in the Midwest on DNR land he told them he was drunk and didn't know what he was doing, however that was 35 years ago. Maybe the guy should be tasked with the reconstruction help community service taking the comfort zone away for a time but not ones life.
