Historic Visit !!! SriLankan Airlines A340-300 Departing St Kitts For London Heathrow

This video was before I took KZbin seriously and had my own camera. This is the only A340 i have ever seen in my time in St. Kitts. A special charter flight from SriLanka to my little island in the Eastern Caribbean St Kitts. The flight came because St Kitts was host to the countries who were voting for who will host the 2018 Commonwealth Games. Shrilnka came lobbying hard but lost to the Australian city of Gold Coast.

@NWA941 the airport has three taxi ways but there is one close to the end of the runway, if you look closer at the white touch down markers you will see a taxi way on the other side but its like at 30 degree angle

Skbenergy nice video just came across it today. I was at the controls on this flight . We did have a good time at st kitts . Beautiful place love it. We still talk about this flight and the good time we had when we get together . Had to stop in London because of endurance and duty time limitations . And it went on as a revenue flight from EGLL . It was a one time charter flight, that was the main reason i did the bi plane spotting video in the first place, i was waiting for this to depart, luckily it was on a Saturday when i was off from work. Sad to say they got 27 votes out of 70 votes and the winner was the Gold Coast a coastal city of Australia.

it was very very very far from home, the return route was London Heathrow then Sri Lanka, the runway is 8000 feet so it pretty much used all available space :)

it was a very long way from home, people were asking if it was an emergency landing what is it doing hear lol, but the Commonwealth games conference was here in St Kitts and they were battling it out with Australia for votes, sadly for them the Gold cost city of Australia won !

my island was actually chosen to be the voting ground for who will host the 2018 Commonwealth Games and it seems it came down to Srilanka and the Gold Coast City of Austrialia, The St Kitts Marriott Resort was the chosen veunue. Srilanka lost to them after a strong bid and showing, thats why the A340 came with delegation and officials to lobby hard :), it could of been history in the making if a a Quantas jet also came lol but they had a small delegation :)

That is what i call a long flight!! Singapore Airlines is flying non-stop from Singapore to Newark.. Its going over Europe! 18.5 Hours! :O Using the A340-500! But there aint any Economy seats on that flight! Only business! Business all the way! =) The flight is Sia22 or SQ22 i think =)

when you look on the map and see how far Srilanka is from us you know this A340 is very far from home :), lol a special charter flight they did and they actually said it was the longest they ever did from home, a near 10 000 miles journey with one fuel stop, some 24 hours it took to get here in all :)

:) i think i was the only person interested in getting this historic flight :). The St Kitts Marriott Resort was Host to a high level meeting in November of 2011 among Commonwealth countries for bidding of who would host the next Commonwealth games :). In a drastic move Srilanka flew there A340 on a historic flight to St Kitts with a massive delegation including there minister of Tourism and there central bank Governor and other officials. Australia in the end won, the Srilankans went home sad

Sadly no :(, the only islands i been to in the south are St Lucia and Barbados :). Its a lot of money to travel down there on Liat, i rather spend that and go to the US :), San Juan is 45 minutes away and i go there all the time :), plus St Martin as well

Not sure why, that's the same route it took tot get here but it would definitely need a fuel stop because the distance is beyond the A340's range nonstop :), but this is a very rare site in my part of the world, it had my aviation friends going nuts on nearby islands lol, one of my most historic catches :) by the way this is a view from a house lol lol :)

magellanmax I did see a video on KZbin of loading a Mercedes to the cargo hold of a Srilankan flight from London. That's when I learnt that an A340 can carry cars in the cargo hold. Only a top corrupt politician could do that on a state owned airline. Yes, after the war ended tourism has boomed and things are a lot better now. Thanks.
