Amazing music. The roots of this hymn are in Russian folk songs and Russian Church music. Its author is a specialist in old Russian musical culture and the last head of the choir of the Cathedral of Christ the Saviour (in Moscow). It is not surprising that he wrote such a brilliant hymn. It was an anthem, not like many others, because of the relation to all peoples, not only of the USSR, for an example: "Дружбы народов" - peoples friendship. And in many other anthems: "We would die for our fatherland against the enemy!" or something like that. The Soviet Union was a country, that gave hope to all people all over the world. This was the cause of the split between Russian socialists (Bolsheviks vs Mensheviks). Anyone speaking against him was almost certainly going to be arrested or killed. Then you got Stalin who somehow managed to be even WORSE. But yet you can see similar things happening in every communist nation that ever existed.
