The soldier returned to East Germany after the reunification to visit his relatives, and he was rejected by them. They saw him as a traitor who abandoned his family. Later he suffered from depression and committed suicide by hanging himself in 1998, aged 56. Note: Some asked for his name, so let me add a few more details. Konrad Schumann was born in 1942 and enlisted in the East German Grenzpolizei (border police) following his 18th birthday in 1960. He jumped over to West Berlin on 15 August 1961 when he was 19.

I remember an interview on Australian TV where Osama Bin Laden's sister in law said that he was a very bitter boy and man because his mother was the only one of his father's wives who was a peasant. Osama and his mother were always looked down upon by family members and and others in the community. She said he put great faith in religion that he and his mother would be rewarded in heaven and those that put them down would be punished. I thought this had the same ring to it as Adolf Hitler being deeply affected by having his own talent at painting nastily criticised by a Jewish art expert. Uncalled for nasty criticism can have far reaching tragically destructive consequences. We only have to look at the cause of the many shootings at schools and places of employment. Being bullied verbally, socially or physically is not a just, fair reason for killing but it is still a cause contributing toward it.

Ephesians 6:10-18 Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might. Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness; and your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace; above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked. And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God: praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints. The bible is no old book. You have to really let Christ open your eyes; to see the world in shambles. Many people say it's a religion to lock up people in chains, and say it's a rule book.. why? In the beginning, he liked being in the free "West", he got a job at an auto repair shop in Bavaria, got married, but over time he began to get depressed due to a break with relatives who did not approve of his escape. Even the fall of the Berlin Wall did not allow him to restore relations with them. In the 90s he started drinking a lot and soon hanged himself in his garden

Many people say it's a religion to lock up people in chains, and say it's a rule book.. why?
