Forgot about the cavalry teams where 2 horsemen rode as pairs with 1 rider controlling both horses and 1 rider as an archer.

What he did forget to say was that the infantry got left behind because you're only as fast as your slowest soldier. So the cavalry took heavy losses in the beginning, proto chain mail or not.
@gnb_24762 жыл бұрын
@@CL-we8tn that is 2 riders on one horse. Each rider had a horse, 1 holding both reins while the other rider fired a bow. Like a chariot without the chariot. The British would do the same in WW1 with their camel corps in the Middle East.

@@gnb_2476 no he says early assyrian cavalry had two riders.... 1:40 they had a driver and soldier holding a bow: verbatim
@gnb_24762 жыл бұрын
@@CL-we8tn what I meant is that that isn't what they usually did. Reliefs clearly show Assyrian cavalry in teams of 2 with 1 rider holding both reins with the other firing a bow.

At no point were the Assyrians putting two men on one horse. The horse teams were one man with the reigns and the other with the bow. This pair would make their way into general use in cavalry warfare in Assyria, and yes they had cavalry that carried bows as well as the lance.
