New Discourses Bullets, Ep.8
Here's a quick public service announcement for policymakers about a simple manipulation everyone keeps falling for: the concept of "historically marginalized" groups. Whether using the phrasing "historically marginalized" or "traditionally marginalized" groups, this little manipulation enables a grab of power and resources in a truly tricky way, and it's "feel good" phrasing that appears in policy everywhere today. What's the trick? Join James Lindsay for a few minutes in this episode of New Discourses Bullets to find out. Spoiler alert, if you're in a hurry: It's that no matter what happens after a policy bearing these terms is enacted, the group referenced as "historically marginalized" will always remain historically marginalized because history can't be changed. Any benefits assigned to those groups will be a permanent reorganization of distribution of power and resources as a result.

OMG, they are not CURRENTLY marginalized and have never been PERSONALLY marginalized and I have never marginalized anyone in my life, yet I have to be a pauper and transfer my wealth to them and after they are a millionaire, they are still HISTORICALLY marginalized. What a powerful magic grift!

Well, White People have been historically marginalized by the left specially ever since 'afirmative action' started. Lets play the game; the Spanish were historically marginalized (many enslaved) by the Arab invaders. Well... then?. Marxist speech is garbage regardless.

Most of the world’s peoples have been “historically marginalized” in one way or the other, as well as having contributed directly or indirectly to marginalizing other groups. This is the history of humanity.

This is a female thing. Ever been involved with a woman who will not let you forget a mistake you made? Now imagine your granddaughter holding your mistake over your grandson’s head. That’s what woke is.

Sir, you are painfully right, I can picture it "You have to give me money to go to the movies because you are just like our grandfather, grandmother was oppressed by him because she makes him sandwiches but she didn't oppress him when he had to give her his pay from his backbreaking job in the coal mines. So, even if this is the first time you're asking me to make you a sandwich, you're *continuing the generational oppression* " This is witchcraft. I had a girlfriend who used to do this. Anytime she was angry for some reason, she would start talking about some things I did or did not do 1 year ago and use it to justify her current rage. Com'on witch! When she did that, I was fumed with rage for days, days during which I wouldn't talk to her. Then later she would complain that I was punishing her. Like Chris Rock said "you should never hit a woman but sometimes you want to shake the everliving shit out of her"

Woman here, and I agree with some of this, and I wonder if this is mistargeted evolution? In prehistoric days, men mostly hunted and defended the tribe, and women mostly gathered and cared for children. So. . . hunting requires courage and innovation and adaption, as well as preventing being eaten by competing predators. Ditto for defense from rival human tribes. Whereas gathering requires memorizing how to find and use things, which plants are curative and which ones are deadly, and how to find them, how to prepare them, as well as memorizing all the childcare data which women used to learn from older women, before writing made data retention and sharing so much easier. I feel like we just DO remember things that pissed us off -- more than men usually do? I never use the stupid, _"Well, you SHOULD know why I'm angry, and if you don't, I'm not going to tell you"_ but I've seen women say that. Because we tend to remember with the same anger, two or five years later! I can literally remember things I try to forget; which doesn't seem to be as prevalent a problem with guys. That was important for women in a pre-literacy world, but it's often counterproductive in ours. I think it's why IN GENERAL (not always, of course) men can be more logical.

Yes, but who cares about white people heh! As far as these idealogies are concerned, "f*ck white people". Obama, Lebron James, Will Smith, Michael Jordan, Spike Lee, Kanye West, Oprah and countless other rich black people are historically marginalized whereas a white family living in a trailer, a middle class woman or a homeless white guy are privileged so "f*ck' em, their resources or lack thereof need to be redirected to helping the poor black people mentioned above. This is sick and evil and should be fought at every level possible, from the ground up and at every corner.

Probably the biggest downside of the ease of access to the plethora of historical information on the internet is that it almost makes time seem spacial. That is, you can view accounts and graphics of past tragedies on your state of the art mobile device like they just happened yesterday, and it seems as if there hasn’t actually been decades to centuries of societal evolution between then and now.

The beauty of using the history of previous generations to villify an entire demographic: it can never be changed. It will remain available any time you need to. No matter how much you punish your target demographic; the history will remain unchanged and they will be no less villified. Fascists have used this for generations.

James, is there some kind of bullet point list that shows the similarities of the Chinese cultural revolution and what’s happening with race now? I’d put it up in my cube at work if so… I’m thinking instead of side by side, have it be all CCR but don’t say so until the bottom. And then the aftermath. Let the reader draw a parallel to race division today. It would include any CRT-philosophers and their contributions as well.

could also just say that "this is America, we view people as individuals, not as groups. Humans experience life as individuals FIRST and as groups 2nd or 3rd or maybe 10th, but being that we experience life as individuals, meaning we only have control over our own actions, and and we are all unique, with different backgrounds, different genes, different thoughts and feelings, we recognize people under the law AS individuals. One person is not guilty of the crimes of another. If i see a black man rob a store, I don't say "well, better lock up A black guy, doesn't matter who, because the important part is that he's black", no, we lock up the person who robbed the store, no matter what color they are, because they committed a crime. their skin color is irrelevant, the actions of the person are all that matter"

Oddly enough, when you do that for you own nation its called nationalism. I noticed some time ago that the exact same arguments that are used by American leftists are used by nationalists where I live (Eastern Europe). They both have merit, but are similarly abused by both groups.

Every group (if someone knows the example of some group not being marginalized would love to know) was at some point in history marginalized in some way. Therefore everyone is historically marginalized group. And if everyone is, then no one is as well.
