@@LippsReacts I'm here for it! Btw all of the seven except the Stranger are prayed to. Depends on the person. When dealing with law high lords will pray to the Father, the Mother is pretty obvious, the Warrior is prayed to by soldiers, the Crone is prayed to for wisdom in making the right decision when tough choices are at hand, the Smith by those who build, make and forge things and the Maiden for purity. Re: Ned and being Hand of the King, it's no different than in the ral world where countries have diversity in thought and religion but still live in relative unity under, and loyalty to, one nation.
@dominicbounds87686 күн бұрын
You were wondering why the Stranger was so rarely worshipped; this isn't without precedent in the real world. Hades, as the God of the Dead in ancient Greek mythology, was regarded with absolute dread for his authority over death and the afterlife, so praying to him or making sacrifices to him was rarely done except at funerals. Indeed, Hades was regarded with such fear and reverence that it was considered dangerous to even speak his name, hence all the epithets used instead

Oooo ok hades is one of my favorite Greek gods to read about so this explanation really worked for me

There are two reasons why the Targaryans didn't do anything about the dragons becoming smaller. Firstly, it was not clear how they could simultaniously control the dragons and keep them strong. Secondly, as you are about to see when the events shown in House of the Dragon started they had several mighty dragons left, so the problem was not urgent yet. Only when most big and old dragons were killed they realized they had to act, but then it was to late.

If you want to dig into the lore, get ‘The World of Ice and Fire’. It was published prior to ‘Fire and Blood’, which is more detailed and precise on Targaryen history, but it is still a really nice companion book, with a lot of gems and hints (plus cool illustrations).
@LippsReacts6 күн бұрын
oooo ok I will! I honestly accidentally bought Fire and Blood when I was trying to buy a box set of the books but it was a happy accident so now I must purposefully buy Ice and Fire.

The Seven Kingdoms were named that because at the time of Aegon's invasion, there were legit seven separate kingdoms. They were: - North (House Starks) - Mountain & Vale (House Arryn) - Isles and Rivers (House Hoare; the Ironborn ruled the Iron Islands and the Riverlands - Harrenhal is named after their King at the time Harren Hoare) - Westerlands (House Lannister) - Reach (House Gardener) - Stormlands (House Durrandon) - Dorne (House Martell) Although Aegon did not actually conquer Dorne. Technically he ruled six kingdoms not seven, so in a way the Faith and their superstitions actually DID play a role in the naming convention lol

Jon, and Bloodraven for that matter, have the blood of the first men as well as old Valeria. Ice and fire. In fact, there is a fan theory that Bloodraven engineered Jon to have first men blood, Andal blood, Roynish blood, and Valerian blood. Jon's lineage represents all the races in Westeros and all it's magic.

I might just misremember but from where does Jon get Roynish blood?

"They have no one to blame but themselves" you answered your own question. But it wasn't simply locking up their own dragons. Tbf they ruled fairly competently for another 150+ years without dragons. As to what caused their line to diminish over the decades, finish the book series and you can delve into some really cool theories.

After the sack of Kingslanding, Ned and Robert had a falling out over the murder of Rhaegar's wife and children. Ned left Kingslanding and ended the seige at Storm's End. He then went south to find his sister. Robert was injured from the battle with Rhaegar and he had a kingdom to rule. He couldn't go searching for Lyanna.

@07:05: this is the island right next to Harrenhal. Very magic and mysterious, still covered by weirwood trees. You catch a good glimpse of the Isle of Faces when Daemon flies by on Caraxes on his way to Harrenhal in HoTD season 2.

Worship of the old gods isn't exclusive. Ned had a Sept built at Winterfell to make Cat feel at home. Oaths are sworn "to the old gods and the new." Yes, seven is a important number even in our world. Seven days in a week. The number of perfection. 666, one short of 7 3x, is the number of the devil.

There' some very intresting questions you have. I never thought about the 7 gods and 7 kingdoms. It could have some relevance because George R.R. Martin was very "into" the historical civilizations and a lot of that to build his lore and world. I have to add, I also can't wait for you to watch House of The Dragon. The TV Series GOT painted the Targaryeans in a very negative light based mostly upon the Mad King. House of The Dragon gives a more complete view of the House and Westeros between Aegon's conquest and GOT.

There's SOO much information given in the books that's not given in the Series and although these can seem a bit repeptitive, it often gives viewpoints from different houses and fills out so many gaps that the show left out. I'm glad you're watching them and can give your thoughts on if /how it would've affected your GOT viewing if the show had fleshed out these tidbits in the show!! I have a lot of different views on some things but that's why we all watch because we all have different takes/views on what we see!!!

I can't speak for how I'll feel for the rest of the history and lores but I do know how I felt when I originally tried to sit down and watch this after finishing season 1 and I made it 5 minutes in and stopped because I could feel my body and brain start to separate from information overload and I was like... and I didn't feel like that was good enough content to put out. Watching this helped tremendously for the Ned Stark character analysis I recorded tho (coming soon).
