As a kid, I always wanted grunt. I remember never choosing him when I *actually* got to get a GI joe because there were “cooler” gi joes. But his card art was sooo good and he seemed so quintessential. Then one day he wasn’t in stores anymore and little me was sad

The archetype stands strong. I remember the Ben Cooper costume from the 80s being Grunt, as well.

I remember being Grunt for Halloween when I was in Kindergarten back 1986. I had the usual plastic costume with the mask and my mom painted my face to look like Arnold Schwarzenegger did in Commando. DAMN those were the days.
@philipdefibaugh56832 жыл бұрын
Yes Grunt in fact was used as the model for the Ben Cooper costume and mask from the 80's. I am surprised Ben Cooper didn't make Duke or Flint since they were more popular than Grunt. Also Cobra Commander and Destro were creepy looking enough to make great costumes.

Grunt is one of my favorite G.I.Joe characters! The 12 inch Hall of Fame figure of him from 1992 or 93 was one of the very first G.I.Joe's I owned! I always thought he was called Grinch or Grant but I know he's Grunt and I like him from the Sunbow Series for the fact he wasn't seen or heard from much until the Worlds Without End episode! When I started collecting G.I.Joe action figures a couple years ago, I acquired an original straight arm Grunt figure from 1982 and put him in my APC with all my loose favorite G.I.Joe action figures who aren't vehicle drivers with the exception of Ripcord and Airborne who both belong in the Sky Hawk and Skystriker!

Grunts the guy who went on most of the missions. Usually he got killed. Sometimes he did something badass like blow up a hiss tank with the satchel charge from accessories pack #1. Other times he manned the .50 cal. On the W.H.A.L.E. One time he went forward and got Dial Tones radio and brought it back to the line so they could call for help!

@@dragonweyr44 This is very early GI Joe. There was a lack of figures and vehicles at the time. Makes sense in lore too as this is Cobra's early years and lacked their own gear and had to use whatever they could get. Even the early Cobra figures came with Kalashnikovs and Dragunovs.

@@maximusprime3459 , they were called Greenshirts. they appeared a lot to make it easier on the animators to animate battle scenes as opposed to drawing all of the regular troops which would have taken longer... they were( in contrast to grunt) a light green while Grunt was gray, and were designed a bit different in terms of pockets and straps.
