I played both Raptor and Tyrian back in the day. Although I think Tyrian was more polished, had the more crazy weapons and better music, Raptor was incredible and my friends and me played it for a long time. Those were I think still the golden days of Shareware games. The internet was not quite there yet, and we got most of our games from shareware disks, since we usually couldn't afford full priced games.

Raptor is still one of the best games of all time. It ranks near doom 1. I didn't know it had a successor, we need a new raptor game! I've been playing the last few nights again, and it's just so nostalgic, takes me back to my childhood when I was more hopeful about the future because it just seemed so limitless, so every time I play raptor I end up being terrible because I'm having such a good time remembering things from when I was 6 to 10, back then we made good use of our shareware games

@@itsaPIXELthing thank YOU for making this video! It was very informative and exactly what I was wondering about. There was something about Raptors graphics I loved, it was like blowing up pixel art, and the story when I learned about it as a kid, I had to ask my dad and he taught me about mercenaries, and my little imagination went crazy along with the thematic futurism feel of the level designs and this plane that was essentially a VTOL with wings. The future of 2020 just seemed so much brighter and cooler, like instead of owning sports cars we'd be owning sport space ships lol. Do you know who owns the rights to Raptor now?

The rights are in the hands of Mountain King Studios, that is the re-branded named of Cygnus Studios from where came Raptor in the first place ;)

Yes! I remember this game crashing after the 5th stage on my 486 back in the day so I went to the Free Record Shop (Local music store) and bought the full game on a green floppy disk. Little did I know that this was the shareware version and this one also crashed on the 5th stage of the Bravo Sector. This all was in the early 2000's (yeah, due to financial reasons I only had a 486 at my mom's place). So over at my dad in the weekends (where we did have fast pentiums and internet), I searched online for a pirated copy and that one worked on my 486 at moms place. Played it a lot. Though, it does get old after a while. Finished it on all difficulties. Although, I always started on rookie-mode, I found an exploit there. The Rookie-mode lets you play the first 4 levels as a warming up. After that the game restarts on the easiest mode after rookie and resets your money. It does not reset your weapons though. If you play well enough you can earn enough credits in the first three levels to obtain the auto-aiming weapon, so you have to buy this after the third, 'cause after the fourth your credits get reset.
