Nico went to visit his family for the weekend, so I headed off in search of adventure and spent the day in Mechelen, a little town just north of Brussels.

Hi! We're Nico (a Belgian) and Jana (a British-Canadian) and we met in a hostel while each solo traveling through New Zealand. We fell in love, bought a van and traveled around the country together. After plans to move to Europe together in April 2020 were derailed by COVID-19, we spent an extra 6 months in New Zealand first in lockdown and then traveling in our van. In September 2020, the borders reopened to EU citizens and flights restarted so we finally made the move to Belgium where we spend our weekends exploring as much of the country as we can.

We cycled yesterday from Antwerpen to Fort Breendonk and then to Mechelen and back home to Antwerpen. I absolutely loved Mechelen (especially after gloomy Breendonk), it’s architecture, water canals, bicycle lanes, free wc’s around the city (you don’t see those in Antwerpen). And St. Rumbold's Cathedral is so beautiful! I will definitely visit Mechelen again, probably on bike again
