Fond memories of the “Honeycomb” restaurant on the top floor of Allders. I remember there tasty open danish sandwiches which I loved as a child.

The Importers coffee house was awesome !! Strong coffee smell and all dark wood paneling on the inside. Now, lost forever.

I remember it well, the aroma would go up or down half the high street on a good day, fascinating.

This is one of my first memories apparently, coffee stacked up on the left as you walked in along with sweets and through the back there was a panelled coffee/tea room where I was taken as a very young child, do I have that right?🤔

Yes I remember there too. Went in there at least one time and it was very nice too at the time. A shame that it has gone now then of course so too!

6:01 That C&A moved where the old Boots was as Boots moves into The Glades. The old C&A became Woolworths

If the road was open this is early 1980's as I would have been a small pre school child and we used to go to Bromley. Roland Cartier along with Trueform were big shoes chains along with Saxone, Manfield and others with loads of shops all owned by the defunct Sears that owned Selfridges then. They had shops everywhere . This is coming up to 40 years 38 years ago.

If you mean the road outside the Churchill Theatre, it's at least 1986 because there is a red Ford Orion at 10:29 with a D registration which started in August 1986. I just searched and found it was pedestrianised in 29 July 1989 although I'd forgotten that. I knew it was pedestrianised by the time the Glades opened in late 1991 though. 35 years ago now!

When the high street was decent, big department stores, sensible people. Now just a dirty looking bunch from Downham and Catford.

The Railway Signal pub closed because it was opposite the benefit offices. Generally people would get their benefits and get hammered .(Or so it was thought.)/
