@@thomashandest3344 what people seem to not get about dj's defense list, almost all his opponents where some of the greatest fly weight fighters of all time but it doesn't seem that way because they didn't beat former champs or where former champs (in the ufc at-least). He was the first ufc flyweight champion and he held the belt for so long it made it look like the division had no impressive fighters.

I’d argue DJ’s defence list is some of the best flyweights of all time, solid, but because they were fighting DJ, they didn’t feel great. Which is why people put it into question. Let’s compare DJ’s dominance to Khabib, from which people didn’t think much of his opponents after losing to him. This is exactly the same feeling.

I'm a true fan of Anderson, I've seen Jon Jones go through all the legends I'd grown up admiring and the respect I hold for Fedor and GSP is huge. But for each of them, in a way, there's an asterisk. Anderson and Jon have big asterisks for drugs and didn't face serious heavier competition. GSPs position in the welterweight division is cemented but like those aforementioned he didn't want to take on the best of the divisions around him, never rematched Hendricks and waited for an aging bisping. Fedors record is immense, but its enhanced by many fighters way beneath the level of his goat level peers. DJ has no asterisks, there are no question marks. He never had a significant advantage over foes when he fought men naturally heavier and larger at bantamweight. Johnson didn't ALLOW other champions to emerge in the ufc, the second cejudo fight is still debated to this day. There's no PEDs or outside ring controversy. And as his career wound down he Took on LARGER challenges that put him firmly in doubt. There was no pick me foes or cans to crush, he did tournaments and rematches. Fought under new rules and even did bouts and rounds that didn't favour him. DJ has highlight reel finishes, goliath victories..long loooooong uninterrupted reigns as champion and extols the respect and discipline that Martial arts is MEANT to represent. I may have failed to convince you that he's the goat, but I hope I've made clear he's someone worthy of admiration and respect. Thanks for the memories DJ.

DJ lost his only major opponents in Dom Cruz and Henry 2. Did not avenge his losses. Turned down Career making fights against TJ Dilishaw and the division above while other Goats dared to be great. DJ fought a bunch of nobodies who never did anything in this sport. DJs skills are dope but he definitely isn't the Greatest of All Time. GSP will take that spot for me.

@mrb56789 The reason you consider Shogun and lyoto Major Opponents is because they had been champion, DJ didn't ALLOW people to become champion. He didn't avenge dom no you're correct, but he spent TEN fights at the weight above where he ought to have been. He didn't fight Henry again you're completely correct, but as I said many people didn't believe he lost that fight. The TJ fight is valid but he was about to face a known cheater and simply wanted to be compensated as the great he was. When they refused he moved on, its a principle thing. I grew up on GSP. I covered my mouth in shock when he said he wasn't impressed 🤣 but he fought Bisping who was one Eyed and well, well past his best. So really what you're weighing it on is his welterweight performances I assume?

@@ryanherbert4878 primarily this is about what his opponents achieved versus other fighters...outside of when they faced DJ. What skills did they show off? What streaks did they go on? What did they do in other promotions... because Machida and Shogun fought around the world showing off amazing skills...win or lose. Example... Tony Ferguson, Dustin Poirier, Khabib. Justin Gaethje were all non champions and really hadn't beat Champions outside a couple RDA fights. Conor was holding up the belt...but was there any denying there skills and win streaks? When you watch Tony and Khabib dominate and have 10 fight win streaks you knew what you were watching even though neither had touched Gold. Name 1 person who fits that description that DJ sent back?

@@ryanherbert4878 also... Henry went and beat DJ. I agree it was close. But then KOd TJ, Beat Marlon Moraes, Accepted a fight with Aldo but ended swapping for beating Cruz. Literally all things DJ could have done and he would have been undeniable. But because he chose the easy road his name will never be solidified the way it could have been if he beat fighters with actually name recognition

@mrb56789 I'd say that Cejudo himself, Dodson and Benavidez were serious fighters with very serious records and wins outside of their losses to DJ. Some others like Hiroguchi and Moraes were very good fighters. Everyone lost to Cruz from his era, there's 0 shame in that as he's the goat of his division which is 10 pounds over him. Unsure if I missed something but why do you feel so clear about GSP out of interest?
