In my opinion, History Maker Golf is the most immersive sports game ever published. At the end of a tournament session, I feel like I’ve walked the course with the players!

Totally agreed! I find myself rooting for certain golfers as the tournament rolls on. I had a tournament recently where Rory started 6 strokes back and somehow rattled off 7 birdies on the front 9. At one point he had 5 straight. He ended up choking on the last two holes and finished 3rd behind Scottie Scheffler (who has quickly morphed into the real-life Scottie Scheffler winning my last two tournaments by a mile). Needless to say, I felt gutted for Rory and had to remind myself it was paper Rory on a table in Illinois and not in real life. lol. This game is incredible for that very reason.

Thanks for the thorough play through and explanation of the basics of HMG. BTW - I had never heard of HMG or PLAAY Games before watching your APBA Golf video (and then realizing it was more complicated than I really wanted). Thanks for the help!

Great stuff, Marco! I'd played a number of golf games over the years, but HMG is the one I'd been searching for my whole life. So thrilled when PLAAY released it in 2017--it was the first PLAAY game that I was part of the pre-order for.

29:18 - Cut Determination: In the case of ties for the FINAL position in each stack, all tied players make the cut, as per p. XV of Game Instructions. In the case of ties for TOP golfer in each stack (round 3), it’s a decider die roll - “bullet”= contend with placement as indicated in chart; “blank” = contend with B+., as per p. XVI of Game Instructions.

Awesome video Marco. Loved your enthusiasm. This is one of my favorite of the PLAAY games. So cleverly done and very engaging. I did not know about the app so that was also a plus. Thank you for your review. I plan to watch your other videos on other PLAAY games.

I have created dozens of courses. Instead of symbols, I use T, S, R, and W, along with G or C. Numbers are added, if appropriate. ONE line on a piece of graph paper will work, per hole. One SHEET of graph paper can easily hold an entire course, and you never have to flip cards. I put the courses in plastic, and all the courses in a small binder. Courses are organized into a season. Works GREAT.

I like having the individual hole cards, but on mine, I do similar to yours with the letters instead of the symbols, but I also color-code them. Blue W for water, brown T for trees, orange B for bunkers, etc.

I'm not a big fan of real golf and while I own ActionPC golf I've never really played it. HMG I like the looks of it, and looks to be my speed, I how it's narrative based for the results. Your video is so very helpful and so well done(as most of your video's are). Thank you for this.

Welcome to HMG. That Justin Thomas roll on no.1. He rolled triples, go to the special results chart. You do so no matter who controls (course or golfer).

I’m 99% sure that a Special Result (trips) occurs ONLY when the golfer controls. Ir you roll quads it’s automatically a Special Result regardless of who controls.

Hey Harold, thanks for checking the video out! Yes, I believe you're correct that if you miss the putt it goes to an easy putt. Unless it's an exclamation point hole in which case I think you got to a moderate putt. Could be wrong, though.

How does this compare to APBA Golf?
@MarcoScola
@MarcoScola Жыл бұрын
Totally different game. APBA is a shot-by-shot approach. You assess the hole, pick the club, account for weather and course conditions, aim, decide if you're working the ball (curving it) or not, and then roll and pray to the dice Gods you've made the right decisions. The advanced version takes into account wind (like which way it's blowing), dry or wet fairways (is the ball going to roll or stop dead?) and greens, and, of course, all the other traps you encounter on a course (trees, sand traps, water features, etc.). And, of course, each player has real-life qualities that will affect your decision making. For example, you may take more chances at the green if your golfer is a great putter but a bad driver. But if you're playing with a "bad" putter like Greg Norman, plan on laying up quite a bit as to give yourself more birdie chances. The game is played on large graph-like paper. I have to say, playing a round truly feels like you're playing 18 holes. When I first started playing it took about 90 minutes or more to complete a round of golf for one golfer. I will eventually feature the game on this channel as it's one of my all-time favorites. I would say the best way to differentiate is do you want to play a full tournament? If so, play HMG. But if you want to have a "relaxing" Sunday afternoon where you want to play a fictional 18 holes at Augusta and it's going to feel like you actually played? Play APBA golf.

Wolff should have lag putted (bottom of p. 9)- would have ended up with EASY putt for bogey. Lots of room for stategic decision-making in this game!

@robscott9414
@robscott9414 8 ай бұрын
That all depends on your criteria for determining “best”. If you’re looking for a detailed shot-by-shot sim, and a higher-resolution course depiction, then yeah ASG is your game. If you’re looking for a game that will accurately simulate scores while allowing you to finish a single round in 15-20 minutes, and a full-field tournament in 3-4 hours, HMG is the game for you.
