It's really amazing how an interesting story behind a particular beer can enhance the experience of drinking it.

Chimay is, in part, of what helped get me into the wider world of beer and craft beer and into Trappist brews.

Currently on holiday in Belgium & came across your KZbin channel on a rainy evening! We’ve been through most of your Trappist series whilst testing them “live” 🤩 Loving the videos and the fabulous content the 2 of you are making…just wish chimay part 2 was released before we drive home to Denmark! Cheers for the great shows🍻

You guys put me on to Belgian beers a while back and for that, I can't thank you enough! Really enjoying this series, it's nice to hear the history behind these breweries! Cheers for another great video 🍻

Another fantastic video guys, but then again with so much to tell and such good storytellers it was to be expected 😊

Great video as usual! Cracked open a Chimay blue 2014 just the other day, had saved it for those ten years…Tasted great… heavy aroma of candi sugar, really carbonated, sweet, spicy and slightly medicinal to the taste… excellent beer and a truly unique experience…

Always have a soft spot for chimay, many peoples Trappist gateway beer, mine included. I had the barrel aged grand reserve recently, not sure if worth what I paid for it but was delicious, look forward to seeing what you think of it next week

Awesome vid, love me some Chimay, Ive had the white, red, blue and green variants so far, seeking out the others. Also, I'm always gonna pronounce it "kai-may", like "chimera", just makes more sense to me. Anywho, fantastic channel!

Thanks for this informative Video. I drank the Chimay Blue a few months ago and I really enjoyed it :)

Awesome, informative video - thanks. Major flashbacks to the mid-00s when Chimay Red and Blue were THE exciting Belgian beers to enjoy in UK bars: more exciting than Leffe and other brands also on the scene then.

I was lucky enough to have a tour of the brewery and sampled a 17 year Chimay Blue Grand Reserve in the pub onsite at the end of the tour. It was absolutely gorgeous, rich and sherry like!

I would be so interested in learning more about the synergy of the beer and cheese. Beer washed cheeses would be an amazing topic to get the CBC treatment.

When I lived in Belgium, I would spend weekends driving to various breweries. Been to all the Trappists… but some didn’t have tours or tasting rooms back then. Orval is amazing and is the best beer in the world. Back in the states, Orval is rare. Haven’t seen it in years. Chimay and duvel must have good distribution, as I see (and buy) them all the time.

Great beer and an interesting story. Went to visit the monastery a few years ago, but sadly not much to see. They also have an inn with a VERY small exhibition center close by, but I wouldn't drive all the way from Brussels again for just that. Hope they make something in the way Sct. Bernadus recently did. It would serve them well.

Well, episode 6 isn't exactly a new series at this point. 😛Love the series so much, though. Once this is done, do the German Bavarian breweries. Paulaner, Augustiner, Ayinger, etc.

I have had the red label which was lovely. I have the grand 2024 reserve in my cellar and am wondering when it would be best to crack it open?

Love Belgium beers, it almost seems as though Chimay brew with kveik yeast if it ferments out that fast, except kveik generally ferrets out clean . Can't wait for episode two, and it can't be on Dave as the program as to be at least 17 years old

Green is by far my favorite. I'll gladly drink the blue and red. I prefer Westmalle and a bunch of other Tripels to the White. Gold is meh.

Bit of controversy here but I think their Gold / Enkel is their best one. Superb example of the style.

That and the white one. Probably my 2nd favorite tripel after Westmalle. The dark beers are great as well. It's one of the best breweries out there, no question about that.
@martinjacks56316 ай бұрын
I have tried all over the years but the Tripel (or cinq cents) is the only one I have gone back and bought.

Also, makes complete sense to me that the Belgian breweries started off doing Germanic kind of styles. To my palate, a Paulaner Salvatore tastes VERY similar to a Belgian dubbel. Doppelbocks in general are really pretty close to Belgian dark strongs and dubbels. Maybe I'm crazy.

Noticing how many trappist breweries have table beers, and that these monks are very religious. Do you see a future where trappist breweries start releasing an NA beer, maybe for their consumption? Or do they not mind 3-4%? Great video!

There is a sweetness in Belgian beers that my palette just can't agree with.
@kw21426 ай бұрын
It's certainly a unique taste which isn't for everyone. If that is the case I'd recommend Orval just because there's not a sweet beer , tastes completely different
