There should be a spin off that dealt with the Dragon Hunts, focusing on a Fire Nation Dragon Farmer, who's friends with a Dragon taken in by his family. With the the Dragon hunts occuring, the young Fire Bender went out of his way to protect the dragons as well being completely against Sozin's reign, even witnessing the Air Nomad genocide, being disgusted by the Fire Lord's actions, yet also saddened and heartbroken his own people would do such a horrible crime.

There is a difference between getting and learning. The people got their bending originally from lion turtles, but it might be hereditary and all that stuff. Anyway, they learned how to control it by observing the dragons, moon, badgermoles, and sky bisons. Just like how waterbenders observed the push and pull of the moon on the water. And Toph learning from the badgermoles how to use her earthbending as an extention of her senses. Also Oma also learned earthbending from the badgermoles. And Iroh learned his lesson from the dragons long ago. (On a side note, the dragon dance always has two partners, like Aang had Zuko. So who did Iroh have??) So learning and getting are two completely different things, and the bending is probably hereditary cuz not everyone has gone to a lion turtle to get bending.....so yeah, that's my idea

The Flying Bison is my wife’s favorite too and now mine..magnificent, strong, and fierce like dragons but slightly more cuddly. The creatures in the Avatar-verse are spectacular. The ones am particularly fond of are the green and gold Mother Dragon and also the white Dragon.

You made a great point about the color symbolism! As it pertains to the Red and Blue dragons with Aang and Zuko, I think it goes further. Aang was paired with the Blue Dragon and then "confronted" by the Red Dragon. Aang's struggle with firebending since Book 1 was that it was destruction, pain, and harmful...he was DECEIVED by a false presentation of firebending. When he had his test, he learned to see the beauty and the honor that fire can possess. Conversely, for Zuko, he was matched with the Red Dragon and "confronted" by the Blue Dragon. Zuko's whole thing was honor (*insert Ember Island gif*) which was what he always sought and tried to understand, but always fell for the DECEIPT of others regarding what honor meant for himself, his country, and in firebending...thus tainting his bending ability earlier in the episode. When he had his test, he learned to see beyond the illusions of what he had been through and see the truth of what fire shows us. GOD I LOVE THIS SHOW!

I’m glad you stated how LOK didn’t retcon bending but instead built on it. If the original benders gave humans the ability, then anyone could become a bender by studying them (which isn’t what we see). I think of it this way: Everyone has the ability to swim, but you need someone to teach you how to swim properly or it isn’t very helpful.
