Okay, the 2012 game was called "Rebound Rumble" and was basically robots playing basketball, and the 2013 game is called "Ultimate Ascent" and is robots playing Ultimate Frisbee on a field with pyramids.

The robots were tethered back in the 90's or were they wireless and if they were wireless what type of wireless signal would they use since there was no wi-fi access points

The very first competition, they were tethered but after that they switched to radio technology for wireless communication.
