The History Bombs team visited Sheffield FC, the world's first football club, to film the History of Football in One Take!
You can find out more about the History of Sheffield FC here www.sheffieldfc.com/
This video spans the progression of football from Cuju in Ancient China to Calcio Fiorentino in Italy, before returning to Britain for folk football and street football, the primary influence upon modern football.
We were very fortunate to work with Sheffield FC on this project, the world's first football club! The hospitality of the chairman, Richard, and the positive attitude of the members of the men's and women's squads who came along to film with us was fantastic.
We thought it would be appropriate to focus on football in the build up to the World Cup in Brazil and indeed make reference to Thomas Donohue taking the game all the way from Scotland to Brazil where it was played from 1894.

Why would you even call American Football Footbal? It is not really a ball and it barely ever meets the foot. Just...why?
@Nioclas64
@Nioclas64 7 жыл бұрын
Did you not just watch the video you are commenting on that just explained this..? Football is called that because the game is played on foot not because you hit the ball with your feet, the game split between two camps it being played by kicking or throwing, kicking stayed football throwing became rugby, Americans just kept calling it football because they didn't need a distinction between the two because Rugby was way more popular in America & eventually started calling football soccer, which to this day most Americans still don't care about because rugby is better.
@Drace90
@Drace90 7 жыл бұрын
Nioclas Harbison Well, appearently you missed something. That it still makes no sense to rename a game that has barely anything to do with kicking "Football". It doesn't matter of which game it is derived from. The name is stupid and unfitting, which might be the reason why britains decided to call it Rugby instead and give the name Football to the game that actually involves kicking. But that one was renamed "Soccer" in America for no reason whatsoever. Oh, of course! It is played *by* foot. Now I understand! So let's rename all other games "Football" that involve walking. You know, like Basketball, Baseball, Golf, Tennis, Volleyball, Handball, Lacrosse, Ultimate, Hockey, Hurling, Badminton, Squash, Ricochet, Brännball, Softball, Curling, Croquet or, you know, LITERALLY EVERYTHING ELSE! ...including actual Football.

"The name is stupid and unfitting, which might be the reason why britains decided to call it Rugby instead and give the name Football to the game that actually involves kicking. But that one was renamed "Soccer" in America for no reason whatsoever." You didn't watch the video. Soccer was what the British called football when Rugby was more popular. When America sort of broke of from the rest of the world, it was still called soccer, and so they never adapted the new term.
