I believe the Duke of Argyll and Duke of Buccleuch are the only landowners to actually own the mineral rights to their lands as opposed to the Crown in the rest of the UK, If you need any information about "Gold Occurences in the UK" - I can point you to a book by Lee Gary Palmer of the same name.

Thank you! No you probably won't get rich panning in Scotland and there are not many places where you're allowed to do it anyway... But yes it's good fun :)

How much was the license? I think in Australia it is $25 Aus Dollars for a year.

At Kildonan in 1869 it was about £100 per month in today's money, I don't know what the licence fees are today I'm afraid (if you can even get a mining licence...) but the recreational panning fee is £10 per day :)
