When it comes to rulership, it's whether you're a fulani or not, but when it comes to peaceful coexistence, islam comes into play... The fulanis can easily indoctrinate the ilorins into accepting that it was Allah who placed the fulanis above them. So except the ilorins throw out the Islam religion, and go back to their own traditions of their fathers, rebuild the Afonja shrine, it will be hard to regain their land.

The Alimi Clan used two tools, kingship and Religion, as soon as they could infiltrate the region with their foreign religion, it became easy for the indigents who had accepted this religion to easily submit to the introducers of the religion, and then it also became easier to establish an emirate over the people... The shocking thing now is how that despite the acceptance of Islam by the indigenous people of ilorin, there still remain a strong discrimination against them along tribal lines, and this is what has stopped them from ever rising above the slavery line, not to talk of them even emerging as the emir... Pathetic isn't it? You are free to become a Muslim, but you cannot become a Fulani, and a yoruba Muslim will remain a slave to the fulani Muslim, however the only way the fulani and the yorubas can cohabit peacefully is if the yorubas accept Islam... By accepting Islam, they submit to the supremacy of the fulani caliphate... And even now, the Afonja shrine that the yorubas could have fallen back to have been destroyed and turned to mosque... The Ilorins sold themselves out.
