Loved this video. This area seems so much like my area on the North Side of Pittsburgh, PA Very similar houses in the "Mexican War Streets", "Allegheny West" & "Manchester" sections of the North Side especially.

Beautiful historic homes, and of course it's worthwhile to go on your tours to get the full effect of a neighborhood.

"Harris row" looks like a lot of Victorian streets in Pittsburgh (especially on the North Side), the difference is in Pittsburgh the houses are usually attached with "breaks" only after 5 or 6 houses. In fact, MY house is this exact style and would fit right in this row if the houses were all "glued together". My house was built circa 1875 so, it fits that these are from 1870. The thing I have noticed by watching this channel is that the Victorian architecture in Pittsburgh seem to have more in common with St. Louis than it does with Philadelphia! It kind of makes sense after a thought: Despite being technically in the North East, Pittsburgh has more of a Midwest "vibe". Despite the silly sports rivalries, I feel more "at home" in Cleveland than I do in Philly.

Harris Teacher's College? I love the limestone retaining wall on the last house, that would be a child's delight to walk upon and jump off until the owner came out and told you to go home.

William Torrey Harris attended Yale for 2 years before coming to St. Louis and starting a career. And yes, that would certainly be a fun place for a child to jump around :)

Nathan does a nice serving of History in his Architectural, Builder, Resident, and Neighborhood History Biographies. *I'd like to assign Nathan several other Cities, "Would be Cities/Ports", and pre-Columbian Histories in the Midwest, Mississippi River Delta, and Tennessee/Kentucky/Illinois/Missouri Region of the USA.* An exchange of Perspectives on: History/Ancient History, Resources, and an effort to establish an Authentic Academic Audit of the Mainstream Academic Paradigm of History, and subsequent writing of the Authentic History using the "Standards of Science and Research" greatly interests me. *"Freedom is the Knowing of any subject, beyond Theories and Beliefs."* - Beth Bartlett

Who is responsible for the upkeep/maintenance of each row house? Can they use any color paint they like?Beautiful properties! Thank you Nathan
@ThisHouse3 жыл бұрын
Those are great questions, we would assume that each owner is able to repaint their home using historically accurate colors. We will look into this and make sure to talk about neighborhood bylaws in an upcoming episode in the Lafayette Square series
